Le Sacrilege, Quebec
Sacrilege was a real find as it offered not only the best beer selection in town but also was a very cool counter culture cafe, very much full of French flair. One night, they had a band playing who were obviously quite humorous though we had no idea what it was everyone was laughing about. I had a nice beer called Barberie that was a blackberry beer with a dryish finish. Another winner is St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout from McAuslan Brewing with its opaque black appearence, creamy body and coffeeish, bitter roast palate. Yum.
Address: 447 Saint-Jean
Directions: Walk past the crepe place heading out of town and after you pass the Porte Saint-Jean, keep walking a few more blocks past the cemetery. Well worth the effort and you see a more interesting part of town too.
Le Sacrilege is located on St-Jean Street, close to the Vieux Quebec, but on the West side of the walls. Its great location makes it one of the locals' favorite spots to hang out as it is close enough to the downtown area, yet just outside of the very touristy areas. The Sacrilege is the kind of place where you go to chat with your friends while enjoying a cold pint - it's not that big and it's got a very casual atmosphere. The music is great, but it's not too loud so it's easy to talk. During summer, you can sit out on the patio at the back of the building. A really great place for a VT meeting!
