Tepoztlán Things to Do

  • Visit the ex-convent

The ex-convent of Dominico de la Natividad, was bult during the XVI century by the orders of the Dominican monks. It was also declared a World Heritage Site and there's the museum of Tepoztlán Historic Documentation. You can hire an English speaker guide at the entrance. It has permanent expositions of how people used to live, the food they ate...

  • Climbing the Tepozteco

It took me 2 hours to get to the top. You get a beautiful view from the pyramid located there and chances are you see an UFO! Bring enough water, cool clothing and comfortable shoes as it is a little tough to climb it. At the top there is a small grocery store where to buy water and snacks. Sit down and enjoy them as you see other people's faces...

  • Parroquia de la Natividad

At downtown there's the Parroquia de la Natividad and at the entrance gate there's the famous mural made from seeds. Don't forget to visit the ex-convent next to it.

  • Picture of your aura

For US20 I could get my aura photographed and a soul-cleaning session (it was four years ago). The owner also read my aura and told me I have 3 angels protecting me and I'm connected directly with God as in my head there's a hardly visible line pointing to the sky.My aura's colors are green and indigo blue, I have been told it's a beautiful one...

  • visit Quintas

If you have a few days, make arrangements to see Quintas. These beautiful homes are hidden behind wide gates that are covered by bouganvillea and swing open to reveal beautiful adobe houses, manicured lawns and refreshing pools. Spanish and Moroccan tiles line the floors of these mansions and cool breezes blow into the screen-less windows.These...

  • Visit beautiful Quintas

If you have a few days, make arrangements to see Quintas, beautiful estates that are hidden behind wide gates, covered by bouganvillea that swing open to adobe houses, manicured lawns, and cool pools. These charming houses often have no screens in windows, so that when they are open, you get a sense of being more connected to the outdoors....

  • Monastery

The main cathedral with adjacent monastery is worth your time. The monastery has a lot of history, and is now used as a museum. Very interesting and nice architecture. When I was there, people were redoing some of the paintwork in the original pattern. It was remarkable, the amount of tiny detail work they were doing. The courtyard in the front is a...

  • Horseback riding in the foothills

The best way to see the countryside is to get a guided tour on a horse. We met a local who knew someone who knew someone else that gave horseback rides. He was just a farmer with horses, trying to make some extra income, but very friendly and nice 2 hour tour. We tipped extravagantly. I'm assuming if you just meet someone in town, they can point...

  • Tepozteco

This is the local Aztec pyramid. I did not actually climb it, but I heard from others who did that the climb is long and arduous. You can see from the photo that the hills are steep, and you have to climb this before getting to the pyramid. Allow 2-3 hours roundtrip. And start early in the morning, it won't be so hot! I also heard that sometimes...

Tepoztlán Restaurants

  • A Mexican Taste

I usually don't go to restaurants in Tepoz but to the local market to eat Mexican food known as "garnachas", they can be described as our local fast food. They are everywhere, they are very, very cheap and it's a great opportunity for you to interact with locals. Quesadillas, pambazos, pozole, gorditas and all kind of "garnachas".

  • The best ice cream ever!!

Besides the green tea ice cream I had in Beijing, these are the best ones I've had so far. Tepoznieves is a must-visit in Tepozltan and as it is a franchise, there are several shops located around Mexico. Each shop is pintoresque and colorful decorated. Some flavours are: Angel's kiss, roses, tequila, mermaid singing, Tepoztlan snow, etc. There are...

  • Market ... ing ...

This is not just a restaurant, it's a market full of small stands where you can have a seat at any of their 'bars' and enjoy authentic Mexican food! I loved it... the food, and its vibe! All the food is homemade-style... they make the tortillas from some kind of black floar or black corn, I'm not sure ... but they are blue. The cheese choice for the...

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It takes 50 minutes to get to Tepoz from Mexico City.
From the International Airport or the South bus station, take a Pullman de Morelos bus to Tepoztlan which costs 60 pesos (about US6). Once in Tepoz bus station, a small shuttle will take you to downtown.

Tepoztlán Off The Beaten Path

  • UFO's

Chances are you ran into an UFO at the Tepozteco mountain. There's a pyramid at the top of the mountain and it is said UFO's go there to take energy. I have taken some pictures with strange objets in the sky (like in the picture) but I'm not sure they are UFO's but there are plenty of videos taken by locals and even the Mexican TV.
