El Tio is a long-standing Monterrey mainstay. It has been in business for years and years, and has time honored traditions, and like any Mexican restaurant worth it's salt, it has photographs of the owner, the owner's family and friends, and many grand-children, and the grand-children of the loyal clients. One picture features the restaurant's founder, Don Rodrigo Velarde Reyes (El Tio, or the uncle), with the great Mexican comedian Cantinflas, and another features him on horseback in an aged photo that looks like it might have been taken in the revolutionary Pancho Villa days. Athough El Tio passed away back in 1985, the tradition that he started many years ago lives on, as the quality of the offerings, and the authentic surroundings are evident.
