There is a Kmart here and then a nicer one in Mckinleyville. There are little quaint stores in Ferndale and Old Towne Eureka. We have a Micheals, Joanns Fabrics, many video rental stores, and toy stores..There are movie theaters in Eureka if you get tired of shopping.
What to buy: You could bring home a live burl (that's a part of a tree), find some pretty shells or sanddollars on the beach, clothes, art, or whatever you want. Fresh seafood is available.
