The party scene in 2008 is GOA, Crimson, HYDE, Villa. They are typical Hollywood clubs and difficult to get into if you are a male- unless you buy bottle service. Cool lounge type places are Skybar, the W hotel in Westwood, and One on Sunset.

Hot spots in LA change like the wind. The hottest spot has a lifespan of about 3-6 months or so. After that the only people you will see at spots like Sky Bar will be other tourists like you.
Update: The info below is like, totally outdated, but if you let me know I'll tell you what's going on! Right now the Standard downtown, is good but that's about all I know. White Lotus, The Smell. Dude, all I do is surf and hang westside these days.

The 'W' Hotel located in Westwood. This hotel features a beautiful modern lounge bar in its lobby. The drinks are pouring, the people are chatting, and everyone looks good.
