Redondo Beach Things to Do

  • Pier

The Pier in Redondo Beach is a landmark with oceanfront dining, shopping and entertainment. We always enjoy the scenic stroll along the Pier with panoramic ocean views. Water activities including harbor cruises, seasonal whale watching, kayaks, pedal boats and S.U.P. rentals. So many unique gift shops to wander through, you will never know what you...

  • Beach

This is one of the longest ramps I've seen along the beach area - very accessible for the handicapped. Photo 2 - I especially liked the view of the ramp with the square buildings in the background.

  • Fun Factory

The fun factory in redonda beach is an old school family fun zone with tons of games, arcades and more. We went there with our 17 month old but I think we, the parents, had more fun. We played all sorts of carnival games like shoot the water target, roll the balls into the hole to move the horse and more. You win tickets if you're the game winner...

Where do old arcade games go to die? Fun Factory Arcade of course! Located on the Redondo Beach Pier, Fun Factory is full of several generation's classics: Pacman, asteroids, mortal kombat, the simpsons, that old game with the chicken that lays eggs. Best of all most of the games only cost a quarter. There's also a ton of ski ball and air hockey...

  • El Torito

    5 out of 5 stars

El Torito isnt my favorite Mexican food place but its not bad. And most gringos love this place:) On Tuesdays they have Taco Tuesdayhappy hour from 4 to 10pm. The tortillas are handmade and the carne asada is marinated so good! Their strawberry margaritas are delicious (my favorite) On Sundays they have the all you can eat brunch. Its not that...

Ahh DJ spun R and B- techno mix all day Sundays and outdoors is my cuppa tea. I love this place. Careful with the frozen drinks- they are stronger than they appear and "the suicide" if over drank may leave you feeling better off dead the next day- well that's what I hear anyway;-) Most anything goes but the standard was beach wear. The waitresses...

Redondo Beach Transportation

  • Get to Redondo attractions from LAX via...

If you have a lengthy layover in L.A. at the airport (8hrs+), or better, have a day or two to kill and want to see and feel the charm of leser known Redondo Beach, it is possible to check her out via public trans, bus-rail. It's not too complicated to go- it's easy as 1-2-3 or Airport-Metro Rail-BCT bus. From LAX: (1) Take the FREE "G" (Green Line)...

  • Get a Car

Depending on what you want to do in Redondo or LA, a car might be the best choice. There is some public transportation, such as buses or the Metro. Check out the bus schedule, it may work for you as they have pretty good routes to downtown, Disney, Venice Beach, and other locations.Another option is Metro, the problem with this is that the routes...

  • From LAX to the Hotel

If you don't get a car at the airport, you will need to get to your hotel in Redondo somehow. The two big choices are taxi or shuttle. The shuttle was about $12 a person, while a taxi costs about $25, no matter how many people. For long trips, if I was on my own I went via shuttle (Super Shuttle), but if I had one or more other people with me we...

  • Healthy Grocers

One of the many great things about California is that it is so easy to find natural and ethnic food markets. One of my favorite and most reasonably priced is Trader Joe's. Worth checking out for its uniqueness. They are generally small but packed with stuff and people. So many unique items but I love the crystalized ginger snacks, the variety of...

Redondo Beach Warnings and Dangers

  • The sun is intense

Since California beaches stay relatively cool it is easy to think that one is not "getting much sun" From experience I will tell you to WEAR SUNSCREEN. Don't ruin a good trip with a painful burn, your tan will be plenty good with a SPF of 15 or more

  • Tickets on the Pier

Its important to make sure you read the signs and obey them. There is a police sustation located right on the pier and they can see just about everything. Therefore its pretty safe here but they are strict about not riding your bike in certain areas. The Strand is OK, the pier its not.My cousin came from New York a few years ago and we were riding...

  • Watch Out for the Steep Steps!!

OK, this is a extremely mild warning but it's important enought to say. Be careful going down and heading up the stairs at the parking lot/R Beach deck, which is a bit outdated as far as its construction.

Redondo Beach Tourist Traps

Venice Beach more hype than hot

by trvlnurse Written Aug 12, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Crowed and dirty sums up the Venice Beach scene for me not the eclectic scene portrayed in travel guides. The tourist traffic getting there leaves one expecting a whole lot more than this area can deliver. The famous outdoor Gold's gym had 2 people working out and looked more like a scene from prison 101.

Unique Suggestions: If you can avoid driving in (i.e. park in Santa Monica and bike or blade in) do so for a better experience but keep in mind the main strip with shops is too busy to blade or bike.

Fun Alternatives: Santa Monica has the same bike trails for biking and blading, is less crowded, and just as "artsy"

    UGH

Redondo Beach What to Pack

  • Still take something warm to wear...

like sweat shirt (as seen in the picture) or jacket when coming to the beach area here. Guys- have one for your lady while walking together along the pier. It can get cool and windy throughout the year, especially at night. This is of course true of any beach along the cold Pacific!!

  • Easy to travel light

Redondo Beach Off The Beaten Path

  • Greek Festival

I've been to quite a few festivals and some are good and some are bad. This one had a great Greek food selection! It wasn't cheap because the festival was a fundraiser for the Greek Orthodox Church. Entertainment was provided and even a cooking class. Rent a sailboat or learn To Sail

by trvlnurse Written Aug 7, 2003

This one is on my "To Do list" and I cannot hardly wait

Equipment: Sailboats range in size from 20 to 51 ft. in length. Smaller sailboats are also available for hourly rentals at low rates. Marina Sailing also has a few power boats, ideal for fishing or for a quick trip to the islands. Each ocean craft is impeccably maintained and fully equipped for cruising. You may select from a variety of popular late-model boats with marine barbecues, fully equipped galleys, inflatable dinghies, wheel steering, stereos, hot showers, furling genoas, inboard diesels, and a complete array of marine electronics
