Plaza Las Americas Tips (6)

Plaza Las Americas: Plaza Las Americas - outlets galore

Plaza Las America's is a street in the US right next to the Mexican Border. It is filled with discount stores and outlet malls.

When you are driving here from San Diego have your camera out and get some pictures of the signs warning us not to take guns into Mexico and directing you to the border.

If you use facebook or other media where you can check yourself in... you can check in at the US/Mexican Border from Plaza Las Americas

Las Americas and Others!: Outlet Mall Shopping At It's Best!

Plaza de la Puerta de Las Americas, now known as Las Americas Preimium Outlet, is the newest thing in San Ysidro, and only 16 miles south of downtown San Diego. It is only a few blocks from the SD Trolley Station, San Ysidro and could be added to a trip to Tijuana.

A lovely shopping mall with about a hundred outlet stores. This is a shoppers haven as it is now, but there are more plans for this place. An extended section was added in May 2005, and later, there are hopes that a bridge connecting the USA with Mexico will be built and it will serve as a new entry port!

Update:

The extention has been built, but the bridge/port of entry has not come to fruition and may never be a reality. It's complicated.

Now even more than one hundred shops and stores, filled with reduced priced items, are open and there is something for everyone to be found here. It is the closest outlet mall to downtown SD and easiest to get to by public transprotation.

Carlsbad Premium Outlets
5620 Paseo del Norte, Suite 100
Carlsbad, CA 92008
(760) 804-9000

This mall is located north of San Diego City. I haven't been there but know that lots of people love shopping at this outlet center. So, if you'll be staying in the northern part of SD County, you might take a look at this one.

Viejas Casino & Outlets
5000 Willows Road
Alpine, CA 91901
1- 800- 84- POKER (1-800-847-6537)

This might be the most fun of all. It is located on the Viejas Indian Reservation where gambling is not only legal, it is available along with other type games and entertainment and a great buffett Las Vegas style! Make a day of it here.

What to buy Almost any type of item you like to shop for!!

What to pay Prices are usually less than in regular mall stores.

Plaza de la Puerto de Las Americas!: Outlet Mall At It's Best!!

"Plaza de la Puerta de Las Americas,"or "Plaza of the Gateway to the Americas," a big name for a big project.

"The Gateway," or "Las Americas," are the English and Spanish nicknames for this big project.

So what has this all to do with a shopping tip?

The community of San Ysidro has been working hard to upgrade it's part of the world and in the shopping category, it began with an Outlet Mall, located a few blocks from the border to Tijuana, Mexico. The Outlet Mall now called, "Plaza Village," did well, but didn't tempt a large enough clientele and many shops moved out.

In the mean time Las Americas was in the works. The first phase opened, just across the street, with great success!

The second phase, an expeanded section, is almost complete, 20 May 2005 is the planned Grand Opening.

The third and most ambitious phase (Which is still in complicated negotiations between the USA and Mexican governments.) is a Bridge that will serve as a true port of entry between Tijuana, Mexico and San Ysidro, California! This means that day trippers to Tijuana can easily cross to the Tijuana tourist section after exploring the shops at Las Americas!

Update:

This outlet mall has, again, changed it's name to "Las Americas Premium Outlets." I don't know when or why, but just wanted to avoid confusion for you while researching.

However, as it is today, Las Americas is still worth a visit!

The Spanish-Colonial style is attractive and there are charming additions of water fountains, relaxing court yards and intimate walkways lined with colorful and tropical plants create a convenient and lovely setting for so many shops.

More details about this exciting shopping mall will be on my San Ysidro page.

Plaza Las Americas: Great Outlet stores

An Outlet mall steps away from the mexican border. It have some nice brand name stores like Banana Republic, Nike, Gap, Adiddas, Puma, Polo Jeans, American Eagle,Children's place, Ralph Lauren, Old navy,Samsonite and Nordstrom. There's also a starbucks, MacDonal's, ihop and a restaurant area. It's a nice place to walk around it have a nice an open mexican design, with fountains and statues and a decorative giant metallic piñata. At first It was mostly visited by mexican tourists but lately you can find that this mall gain interest from a variety of tourist from everywhere, last time I found a group of tourist from France and other group from Spain and most of them look very pleased with their shopping. Across the street there are more stores if you didn't get enought...

What to pay less than average.

San Ysidro Outlets: Great Bargains

The outlets are located just north of the San Diego/Tijuana Border. They're a great place to shop for items at a discount price. You can find a Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Bath and Body, Hello Kitty, Nike, etc. Pretty much there is something for everyone.

What to buy Personally, I would buy a caramel apple with peanuts at the chocolate shop. They are wonderful.

What to pay Remember these are outlets, so you'll be saving $.

The shops at Las Americas: great, outlet mall

This is a wonderful, multicultural outlet mall that is spitting distance from Mexico. There are tons of brand name stores with cheap clothes, shoes, and many other items. You feel you have gone to Mexico, even though still in the US, as almost all the workers in the stores and the shoppers are Mexican. The cashiers frequently start to count your change back to you in Spanish out of habit. They then look up, see you are not Mexican, and say, sorry! and start to speak in English!!

What to pay Just some examples: I got a suede leather jacket for $50, and some Nike tennis shoes for $50 as well. There is also tons of cheap, brand name clothes
