Take a boat ride or a kayak trip through the islands and canals in the Banana River.
Cocoa Beach, at it's widest point is about 1 mile wide. The Atlantic Ocean is on one side, and the Banana River on the other. There are canals that run through downtown which are home to year-round birds and water life (manatees, dolphins, tarpon, herons, falcons, eagles) as well as part-timers (rare white pelicans, rosebills.)

Salt and freshwater fishermen enjoy more than 320 marinas. three fishing piers and several fishing camps.Florida's Space Coast is home to more than 700 fresh and saltwater species.Anglers either try their luck from piers or with numerous charter operators.
Enjoy air boat rides along the St.Johns River, power boating, sailing, dinner-riveboat cruises as well as more strenuous pursuits and windsurfing.

jetty park offers swimming, fishing, surfing, and camping on the atlantic ocean. also jetty park is the best location to watch rocket launches in cocoa beach.

We were there over a holiday weekend (President's weekend), and it was not TOO crowded. The water was quite cold (February, you know), but the laid back atmosphere was very inviting.

ok, I admit, Space Exploration is not a big interest of mine, so perhaps I didn't get as much out of this as some other folks would. My friend enjoyed it.
