Sunset Festival Tips (4)

Sunset Pier - Duval St / Mallory Sq

Sunset Pier is a hotel bar, but it is better than most. How about being outside for starters? Even better, it is located on a pier at the end of world-famous Duval Street. It gets even better: it has a great view of the renown Key West sunset from just a few yards away from crowded Mallory Square.

We stopped in one evening before sunset, needing to kill some time before visiting Mallory Square. We found a table next to the bar on the west side of the pier, where we could track the progress of the sun dropping into the ocean.

Laura had the orange capirinha ($9), which was very tasty; Caipirinhas, made with cachaça, a sugar cane-based alcohol, is said to be the national cocktail of Brazil. I had a bottle or two of Hawaiian Longboard lager ($5). We didn't eat here, but they do have a good, but expensive menu of appetizers, oysters, sandwiches, and a few entrees.

There are a dozen!: Take a sunset cruise!

Check with the visitors center for names and numbers, there are too many to mention! These boats are filled with people getting drunk, sometimes the boats will come close to the dock so they can moon youduring sunset! Doesn't help the view for sunset :o)

Sunset Festival: Twilight Spot

Sitting on the outdoor wooden decks you can listen to live music played rhythmically to the the sun drifting below the horizon over the sea of yellows and blues, under a sky of pinks and purples.

Every night at dusk, live music is played here in what is known as the nightly sunset festival. Wonderful place to sit back close your eyes and smoke a cigar, or of course to take your lady for a margarita.

Highly recommended
