Did you notice the beautiful cars in Key West? Some cars cruising thru the streets and some cars are for decoration. For example this car on the picture. It is an Alfa Romeo, and it is totally decorated with little pieces of mosaic. So now you know, not only look at the bars, shops, and people, but also look at the street to see what's coming by.
One of the things we love to do is to go get some naked wings and then go to Peppers and sample their wares. I recommended it to my aunt for her to go when she was down here, and she not only went, but she bought some of their sauces.
The conch train was started when we lived in Key West in the late 60's. In those days it went all the way out to the Stock Island end of the Island. One of the sights I remember seeing was this strange house with lots of sea shells or something. It doesn't seem to be on the tour anymore.
There are, or were many chickens on the island. One day I was waiting for the bus (La guagua---pronounced La Wa Wa) and a big bright red and black rooster proundly strutted across the street....at the same time a huge semi truck (yes they do come to that island) was flying down the road and slammed on the brakes to let the little guy pass...It was a strange moment, insignificant to some...but there was comedy in it. The rooster then looked both ways and continued on his path.
I do believe I saw the driver wipe sweat from his brow...
This little place on the end of Duval St. is for the chickens, these people are all about the birds, and there are stories and gifts and other oddities pertaining to them. I guess you would take an injured one here? Anyhow...it's an unusual little place you really wouldn't see anywhere else...that I know of....
I can't help it. They make me giggle. I'd be walking with my friends along the marina at around one or two in the morning, and suddenly we could hear the cockadoodledoo's off in the distance...I swear some of these roosters sounded more haggard than we did. Maybe someone spilled some tequila???
Ladies of the night are plenty in Key West! If you smile, they may even play with your puppy! "Scrub Club" is one of many such fine establishments along Duval street.
Apparently there are debates about censorship on the island about “Adult entertainment” Just look for the Blind C0ck…but they must drive to your front door.
Key West has it's share of T-Shirt shops. It's just that here I think they are a bit more imaginative if not "RAW" with their t and undies messages.....see picture.
