Best Rated Tourist Traps in Sarasota

  • Jungle Gardens is a waste of time!

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Jungle Gardens is "trashy" Florida and is a tacky, expensive display of limited bird and wildlife. Go to Myakka State Park for real wildlife, or if you have kids and want a guaranteed experience, head out to Mote Marine Laboratory on City Island. (Take them to the Salty Dog for hot dogs afterwards, they'll have a great time!)

Unique Suggestions: Try to go early. If you see a school bus in the parking lot, run away.

    Fun Alternatives: Myakka State Park
    Corkscrew Sanctuary (Naples)
    Mote Marine Laboratory
    Staying in your bedroom

    Sarasota Jungle Gardens

by sarahjayn Written Mar 28, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Sarasota Jungle Gardens falls into the same pit of Florida attractions as Gatorland or DinoWorld. . . that is, it's not that great. But, if you are in the mood to see some birds and gators in captivity, this is your place. It's also one of the few truly kid-friendly places in Sarasota.

Fun Alternatives: I'd go to Mote Marine Aquarium and Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary instead, or - if you feel like being in the car for a while - Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.
