    Easy access by MARTA

by rexvaughan Updated Feb 1, 2008

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Decatur is easily reached by metro Atlanta's rapid rail system, MARTA. It is about 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta and 45 minutes from the airport. Cost is $1.75. There are also connections from other parts of town and a pretty widespread bus system (part of MARTA) in Fulton and DeKalb Counties. Check with MARTA downtown in the 5 points station or call the number below for bus routes and schedules.

The station in Decatur was recently redone and about the same time they switched from metal tokens to plastic cards (similar to London's Oyster Card). So they embedded some of the old tokens in the plaza and walkway in front of the entrance. Within a few days they had all been pried up and taken.

Decatur Local Customs

  • Honoring our citizens

During the 1996 Olympics (hosted by Atlanta), Decatur played host to the delegation from Ireland. We had a coach stay most of 2 weeks in our home. To mark the event, Decatur modestly proclaimed itself Hometown to the World. After the event, many of the volunteers were recognized as Hometown Heroes. That tradition continued and now each year a group...
