    Kailua-Kona Things to Do

The Big Island isn't the best island for pristine beaches but the snorkeling is great and I snorkeled every day I was there and very much intend to return and do the same. The best snorkeling spots are rocky and tricky to get into and out of the water but it's worth it for the wonders you see. Beach shoes are a must at least for my tender feet .....

    Kailua-Kona Restaurants

What can I say? At Hard Rock Cafe you will see memorabilia from celebrities. The food is great. While you are eating/waiting for the food, you can have a look outside on the ocean. After your meal, you can go to the shop and buy a souvenir. In 2000 the Hard Rock Cafe was in Kailua Kona, but nowaydays (2010) it seems it is only in Honolulu.

My favourite pool/biker/drag queen bar. Never found anywhere like it on Earth. I was there in August 2004 and April 2008, when it was just about to be demolished to make way for a car park at Hilo market. Progress... bollocks. Sorry to see you go, and sorry I wasn't there for the last-night party.

One of the highest (1,500+ feet/460 meters) waterfalls in all of the State of Hawai`i goes unseen by most visitors. Hi‘ilawe (hee-ee-lah-vey) Falls is in the Waipi‘o (why-pee-oh) Valley which is on the north shore of the Big Island. Why do so few people see it? You either need to have rented a 4WD SUV so that you can drive down into the valley or...

    Volcano Things to Do

This is a short hike that brings you to the bottom of the Kilauea Iki Crater. You will descent via stairs (ccw) or path in to the crater (cw). This depends which way round you go. At the bottom follow the stone men to the other side. It is a strange feeling when you walk trough a crater that was in 1959 one big fire pot. Knowing that below you...

  • Awesome Volcano Tour

    by Luvz2Drum8 Written Oct 20, 2015

We booked a the full Volcano at Night tour with KapohoKine. Our tour guide Grant Mitchell led an interesting and amazing tour! For an eleven hour tour, which included multiple sites, it was action packed the whole time, each site was amazing; and Grant made it all even greater with his personal knowledge, historical background, interesting anecdotes, humorous stories, and spot on getting us all to the places we all wanted to experience. Grant clearly loved his job, sharing it genuinely with his guests, and making sure we all had the best experience. I suggest anyone going to the Big Island book this tour EARLY in their itinerary, an ask for Grant you'll be extremely happy. Thank You, John and Margaret
