Road to Hana Tips (4)

ROAD TO HANA

Although many people said that this was a terrible road I didn't find it to be that way at all. We have worse roads up here in Montana.
Now granted my daughter who gets car sick at the slightest curve in the road wasn't feeling very good ( next time remember the motion sick pills).
I did find a lot of people traveling on it and it does make it somewhat of a hassle to stop and see the things that you want to. But the waterfalls are all great to see and this is a great way to see both rainforests and waterfalls.
The first waterfall that you come to is a 20 minute leisurely walk to it from your car. When you get there remember to have brought your bathing suit as this is a waterfall going into a pond. You can get directly underneath the waterfall while in this pond.

Road To Hana Tour

Taking the Road to Hana Tour with Valley Isle was a vacation within a vacation. Why? Because for the first time on vacation we didn't torture ourselves with driving a long way to see something fabulous. We usually do our own driving as we trust that our driving skills are safe and we can take the time to not be rushed, but there are some 600 turns getting to Hana. It is simply a paradise but to get there you are definitely pushed to the limit if you're driving yourselves. Miraculously, Valley Isle accomplished those two goals as we had been told they would. And, the food was good too. Most of the tours we've ever taken have had horrible food, poor drivers and not so nice coaches, well this was not the case with Valley Isle. Their coaches were top notch, big windows and climate controlled perfectly. They had pastries, coffee, tea and yogurt, among other things on offer at breakfast and also a nice grilled chicken, Hawaiian style of course and salad at lunch as well. The waterfalls, out of the way beaches and other spots they took us to were things we probably would not have been so keen to visit on our own. Let us not forget their private port-a-potty stops, a true plus, along the way. Frankly, our driver made us feel safe breaking out of the norm and was so impressively knowledgeable about Maui it was like having a history book you could ask questions to while on the tour. Our driver was incredibly good. Never once did either of us feel the least bit queasy or nervous, and that is after 600 turns to get to Hana and my husband usually gets motion sickness if he's not driving most of the time. Also, our driver was informative beyond our wildest imaginations and didn't rush the tour at all. We considered it a major treat to ourselves to do this tour but really, it was a cost and energy savings since it saved us a day of exhausting driving to Hana and trying to find all of the information out of a guide book that the driver so elegantly and descriptively supplied us with on our trip. Not only would we look forward to doing another Valley Isle Tour but we'd certainly not hesitate to recommend it to our friends, family and associates. We would want them and everyone else to have a real Maui experience, just like we did. It really made the difference in our vacation. Cheers, Valley Isle ;)

A must do in Maui! takes all day to do it right.

It isn't far in miles but that is very deceiving you need to get an early start. For one thing there is a lot of traffic and you have to go slowily. The roads are super curvy and some of the curves are 1 lane so you have to be very careful and supposed to honk your horn are you turn. I'm serious. Besides that there is alot to stop and see .. and do. You are going up around and around a mountain, .. most of the time there isn't railing so if you go off the road ... well you won't have to deal with that long flight home.
This is literally one of the most scenic drives in the world ... so don't miss it but it will take a full day ... DO START EARLY .. take all you need to hike and swim .. towels, sunscreen, beach shoes, lots of camera batteries. If you have a cooler with stuff that would be best. You'll Waterfalls, rainforest, bamboo forest, colorful painted trees, botanical gardens, fruit stands, the famous banana bread., black sand beach , read sand beach .. some amazing hiking and vistas. But if you just stop to see what you spot from the road .. you will miss out. Besides that beyond Hana there is a water fall ..well it's like 7 little waterfalls in a row. then you have to decide how to return back .. the way you came ... or the scary other way where there roads are super rough. Do some reseach of what mile marker things are and how long a hike to make sure its something you are up to. There are books and websites with that info.
I saw that one of the reviews here ..thought the way there was the reported bad road ... ohhhhhhhhhhh no ... the other way back is. Either way you have to go slow and you don't want to drive either when it's dark.
