Lahaina- Front Street Tips (9)

Art Galleries on Front Street: Art Galleries in Lahaina

There are a number of art galleries on Front Street in Lahaina. From local shops on the East end featuring works by local Maui artists, to galleries such as Martin Lawrence featuring more well known artists such as Picasso.

Typical Souvenir Shops: Souvenirs ad nauseum in Lahaina

Souvenir shops line Front Street in Lahaina. Wind chimes, carved tikis, t shirt places, all squeezed together, and walk a few doors down and more of the same. Fortunately there are a number of places you can get a cold beer close by.

Various Shops, Restaurants, and Attractions: Lahaina

Lahaina was a neat little town in Maui, close to our hotel in Kaanapali. They had wonderful restaurants, and shops. There were also many information booths to help plan your stay in Maui.

What to buy There were LOTS of tourist shops where you could buy t-shirts, or postcards. Also my favorite, jewelry stores with lots of pearls.

Lahaina - Front Street

Front Street is the main drag running through historic Lahaina. Besides historic sites, the street is lined with shops, restaurants and bars and is a very active tourist area. Stores range from tacky touristy (the majority) to specialty, upscale and fine galleries. Although touristy, the area retains some charm of the old whaling days.

Restaurants are more reasonably priced than in other areas of Maui. Ones with entertainment or dancing include the Hard Rock Cafe, Maui Brews, Moose McGillycuddy's, Cheeseburger in Paradise & Longhi's.

If you can't find parking along Front Street, try one of the many parking lots on cross streets.

What to buy - brightly colored Hawaiian apparal (which you probably will never wear once you return home)
- sundries
- jewelry
- paintings and sculptures from local artists

Vintage European Posters: For poster collectors

This shop has a fantastic collection of vintage posters from all over Europe. Their collection includes advertisements, art posters and others. They have various styles and sizes to suit everyone.

What to buy One of the neatest items they had for sale was a limited print of a Picasso poster. They also had some great late 19th and early 20th century style posters.

What to pay The posters are all imported from Europe, and are all vintage (as in, originally printed before I was born!). You can buy smaller prints for between $50-100 USD. The larger murals cost thousands of dollars each.

Lahaina Boutiques

Downtown Lahaina, around Front St. is brimming with many interesting boutiques. There are dozens of jewelry stores, clothing shops, art galleries, knick-knack shops, etc. Front St. is where I shopped for my friends and family back home. Prices at the various shops ranged from cheap to ridiculously expensive. I bargained for great deals on jewelry.

Front Street has so many fantastic art galleries. We had a great time strolling around the multitude of art shops and admiring the variety of the collections after a big dinner beachfront.
