    this was very interesting we could have spent the afternoon here lots to see , its a working military base has a veterans cemetery and a confederate cemetery everyone entering must have a photo id

    The Rock Island Arsenal Museum is the Army’s second oldest museum. It first opened to the public on July 4, 1905. The primary mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Rock Island Arsenal and Arsenal Island. By focusing on “People, Processes, and Products,” the exhibits tell the story of the people involved in Arsenal Island’s history, the manufacturing processes used at Rock Island Arsenal, and the military equipment that was produced at Rock Island Arsenal.

    The Rock Island Arsenal Museum is nationally recognized for its large and impressive small arms collection. Over twelve hundred U.S., foreign, civilian, and military small arms are on permanent display.

    john deere factory tour

    this is a second place to stop and see for john deere fans this is the factory that makes the combines you have to call ahead many days in advance to get a in to see the tour its free and its north a few miles from the museum on the same road river road

    out front on river road in front of the building this is the entrance to the factory tour

    this is on river road they had interactive equipment to sit on and you can climb up in the big tractors and its free to get in had a nice store too made a flat penny with their logo on it
    theres a restaurant there on river road a few blocks north its called the boathouse that was said to be the place to eat the locals told us about it , we didn't have time to stop and eat there
    aslo free parking on the back side on the building easy parking and getting int and out of
