rock road, central, and kellog, avoid driving on these roads as much as you can. They may not seem that bad but sometimes people from other places in the state get on the roads and start freaking out. If there is not an SG in the top left hand corner of the license plate than avoid that car.
Just be aware travellers that Wichita is a city, but is still part of country life. What does that mean to you while driving? Obey EVERY rule of the road. In Wichita and most of Kansas they don't just hand out speeding tickets. Wichita police are very vigilant(while still being nice) and they WILL pull you over for ANY infraction you may make. This means you need to remember to signal your lane changes, and make turns into the correct lane.
But don't take this as thinking that Wichita police are harsh towards out-of-towners. This is just how things are done in Wichita, and everyone gets the same treatment. Which overall is well above par.
WE HAD NEVER HAD A PROBLEM getting through Wichita, either on I-35 or a western bypass route (I-235?). not until our May 2009 trip. Shortly before entering Wichita from the south, no less than three serious accidents took place on the interstate, and worst of all, two of them were fatality accidents.
The picture shows part of the situation on I-35.
Please be careful.
If you are driving in Wichita or any place else in Kansas obey the traffic laws. My wife can tell you that you will get a ticket if you are speeding.
