  • No Dogs!

    by NateWill22 Written Jun 30, 2003

They actually don't allow dogs on the beach from April to the end of September because, "it is a threat to the health of children--degrades our town--and transmits disease." Isn't that hilarious? The sign also says there is a $200 fine for not cleaning up dog waste! Maybe lots of beaches have this kinda thing, but me, living in Indiana, have not been to that many beaches... so I dunno. I just thought the sign was hilarious!

    roadside picnics

You can find picnic areas along many roads in Maine. Look on your official Maine State road map to find scenic picnic areas indicated by little picnic tables . Many have a place to barbeque, running water or pumpable water, and toilets , but bring your own hand wipes and often toilet paper.

    Beers of Maine...

    by Cabana_Boy Updated Dec 5, 2002

In addition to lobsters, Maine also has a great brewing tradition which is alive and well. Sample Gearys Pale Ale, Shipyard Export Ale and Bar Harbor Real Ale as well as one of the many blueberry beers. To borrow a phrase from the southwest, "try one and you'll understand why."

Naturally, all those beers go well with lobster...

The people of Maine are great. They have an immense amount of state pride! I have never been to a state where the people only buy products that are produced within the state. They are very consious about keeping their money within their borders.

DIY Lobster! There are lobster dinner deals all over the state, but the best, if you have the means, is to buy 'em fresh, fill a huge pot with sea water, bring to a full boil, throw the suckers in, and consume with way too much butter....

We visited the Episcopal church right downtown Bar Harbor for the Sunday service. It was nice, and we ran into someone we met on the bus!
