Keg & Barrel: Good everyday kind of hangout

by DSwede Written Nov 21, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Located just of of Hardy, the main street, you may pass this place when driving by thinking that its just a residence. That's because it used to be. The entrance is up the front porch, the tables are what used to be the main living areas, and I can only imagine that the dart boards are where the dining room used to be.

It is a very casual and relaxed bar with countless beers on tap and bottle. There are cocktails too, but in my opinion are a bit pricey. In all honestly, its not really a place to go if you are alone, but if you already have a couple friends to hang with, it is a very comfortable place.

They do have a large food menu of finger foods and entrees.

open 3pm daily. Closes 1am Monday through Thursday. 2am on Friday and Saturday. 10pm on Sunday.

Dress Code: Dress code is completely casual.
They do have outdoor seating and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays often have live music outside. Dress for the weather.

    Address: 1315 Hardy Street, Hattisburg

Directions: Hardy Street is the main east/west corridor. It is about 1/2 way between Southern Miss campus and downtown.

B & E's Wine Bar: A place to chill downtown

by DSwede Written Nov 19, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

B & E's Wine Bar, or more commonly just called Wine Bar, is on the quiet streets of downtown Hattiesburg.

Early in the evening, it is most likely frequented by some of the locals having a bit of a happy hour after work. However, some of the younger crowd will start to come out ~10pm. Many people use this as a starting point before going to the Thirsty Hippo

There are some bar stool chairs, as well as some lounge chairs to relax in.

Regardless, they have a fully stocked bar with countless beers, cocktails and as the name would imply, also many wines.

Dress Code: The dress code is relaxed, just show up as you are.

Address: 207 E Front Street, Hattiesburg

Directions: Historic downtown, on the corner of Main and Front

The Hunt Club: Clubs!!! Just one more hidden Spot!

by redprimadonna Written May 13, 2008

ooooh~! this is a fun place! It had three MASSIVE dance floors, a stage (with bikini contests in the summer... but they are trashy! dont do it!) A huge patio, two bars, karaoke 24/7, pool tables... you name it. It is usually got tons of people, but rarely packed out, so you can dance but have many other couples on the floor too! Tons of singles go here to party.

    Dress Code: Just club wear!

    Address: Hardy Street

Directions: It's right behind Antonelli College, off of hardy street, not exactly on it

  • Roper's: A Ropin' Good Time

An option for those interested in country line dancing is Ropers, located at 6428 U.S. Hwy. 49. At Roper's, a DJ plays primarily country music with some occasional hip-hop and line dances such as Strokin' and the Electric Slide. Ropers recently began having karaoke on Tuesdays, which is also ladies’ night (free cover, free drinks: a good time, ladies, trust me!)

While this bar is mainly country, there is quite a mix of people (college kids- senior citizens) and each time I've gone to Roper's, I've left having a great time. If you are visiting from out-of-state, go to Roper's for the full Mississippi experience with great drink specials and friendly, fun people. haha. You won't regret it.

Dress Code: Anything goes! My sorority sisters and I usually wear jeans and a nice top, but t-shirts are always a good choice, too.

    Address: 6428 U S Highway 49

Directions: A few minutes north of the USM Campus on Hwy 49.

  • Mugshots: Live Music in The 'Burg

by deadman Written May 22, 2003

Ditto on the tip about The Thirsty Hippo. Great venue. (Dave--ya got it right on the nose)

Mugshots is another live music venue. More frat-oriented, but they are very supportive of the live music scene in Hattiesburg. Open Mic Night on Wednesdays is generally a good bet-bands, this is a good way to break into the scene here.

Youngish crowd on the weekends. What type of folks are there depends on the band, however.

Dress Code: Caot and tie required. Ha! Just kidding. The place is quite laid back, so just about anything goes, though you may feel more comfortable in Dockers and ball cap ;)

Address: 4th Street and North 38th

Directions: Head out Hardy Street West, Turn north at 38th Ave. redlight

  • The Thirsty Hippo: The Thirsty Hippo

    by dbumpers25 Written Oct 5, 2002

One of the cool places to visit here is The Thirsty Hippo owned and run by Eric Eaves. Its a local bar in beautiful downtown Hattiesburg that gives you the feel that you've just stepped into New Orleans. It has an wonderful courtyard in the back that has a fish pond and giant oak trees towering over the entire area. You have to experience 'The Hippo'. They serve beer and several times a week you can find any of the local or out-of-town bands playing there. Its truly one of the treasures of Hattiesburg. The cover to get in is generally between 3 - 5 dollars.

Dress Code: There is no dress code, its come as you are, or as you would like to be. Its a great place to go before a late night party gets started or after an event. Take a group of friends and just chill.

Directions: Its located on Main St. in Hattiesburg just before the railroad tracks. Its easy to miss so drive slow. The only hint that it is there is a small wooden sign hanging above the door.
