Westport Tips (5)

Westport: Drink Hardy but be Careful

Westport is the place to be hanging out if you want to stay late and get drunk. The bars stay open until 3AM. There are around 6-8 main bars that people congregate between. All are packed usually, and some have bands to play the type music for 20-30's crowd. The goal is to try and pick up some friend. The other goal is to avoid fights and watch the driving away from here. It has had its better era, and is hanging on for business, but downtown competition has taken away the popularity and the bigger money crowd. An ethnic issue is a problem here. There are some rough people in these crowds without much moral conscious. How do I know? I managed property here and in 2 years 4 murders on the property and much drugs and prostitution was the problem. Daytime is a fair amount of vagrants wandering.

Dress Code Very casual to a point of risque, or thug and hip hop attire.

America's Pub: Westport

Westport is one of Kansas City's most culturely diverse place. At night you can find bars, pubs, clubs, etc. America's Pub is my most frequented club in Westport. There's a bar area with stools and tables and also a dance floor. I've also been to XO's which features cages and techno music.

Dress Code Casual clothes. Girls wear jeans or skirts and showy tops and guys wear jeans and t-shirts or collared shirts.

Westport: Westport

For those who love going bar to bar without driving Westport is your best bet. There is a wide variety of bars and clubs in this few block radius. Often on weekend nights the streets are blocked off to allow people to roam freely bar to bar. Several restaurants are also close by for those with the munchies! Check out the web site for an extensive listing of bars. For live music go to the Hurricane!

Westport

Westport
At one time, the Santa Fe trail began here as pioneers headed west to settle the vast acreages of Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. Nowadays, Westport is Kansas City's bar spot, with such perennial favorites as Have a Nice Day Cafe (found in every mid-major city in North America). It's also got a few groovy shops and hangout locations. But really, it's there for the bars.

And to watch KC'ers bemoan their gawd-awful sports teams. The soccer team, the Wizards, won the MLS last year. It was the city's first championship since George Brett led the 1985 Royals to the Missouri Series championship over the Cardinals. Hockey? The Scouts left town, eventually becoming the Stanley Cup-winning New Jersey Devils. Basketball? Surely you've seen the high-flying Sacramento (formerly KC) Kings. Throw in the American League baseball Athletics, now in Oakland, and Kansas City has lost as many pro teams as it has kept. Oh well...
