Fairbury is a very nice small town located in Southeastern Nebraska. It has a population of about 4400 and is the county seat of Jefferson County. Fairbury's existance has historically been tied to the railroad. One of the first settlers here was James B. Mattingly who started a sawmill on the banks of the river. Then an industrialist named McDowell came here from Fairbury, Illinois and laid out the town. The Jefferson County Courthouse is a beautiful Romanesque Revival styled building that was completed in 1892.
