Pontillos Pizza: my kind of pie

by davecallahan Written Jul 7, 2007

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Good pizza, made quickly and delivered hot.

Good pizza: thick crust that is not heavy or chewy; plenty of cheese; lots of topping choices; great sauce (special recipe). These pizzas are consistently good, year to year, franchise to franchise.

Made quickly: they usually guarantee your pizza will be ready within fifteen minutes from when you call-in or drop by.

Delivered hot: their drivers must get speeding tickets! The pizzas are delivered in a heat-bag to keep them warm. The drivers can usually get from the shop to anywhere in their delivery area in 15 minutes (wish I could get around town so quick).

And the Pizza is delivered to your motel lobby for only $12 (large) and $2 deliver fee (plus a tip if you are so inclined). There are always Pontillo coupons in the local flyers and newpapers which the better motels give to their customers.

Address: 7374 Pittsford Palmyra Road (route 31)

Fairport Village Coffee Shop: better than starbucks

by davecallahan Updated Apr 9, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Looks like a combination of bakery, gift shop, dinette and the cosy sitting area from the bar in the TV show "Friends". Feels like a little bit of each.
Sometimes you just stop in to get a cup of coffee before work; sometimes you go for a bit of cake and coffee and some friendly talk on a Saturday afternoon; sometimes you get a panini or a wrap and a coffee for lunch. (I don't imbibe so I don't normally go for the wines but they have those too).

It is always friendly and cheery sitting over by the windows; a little more dark and quiet at the tables in the back. The staff are like your neighbors and don't hesitate to join in the chitchat.

The gift shop part is all items having to do with coffee and wine products (cups, glasses, specialty coffees, etc.)

If you are in the Fairport area for a visit, be sure to drop into the Village Coffee Shop to relax.

    Address: 6 north main street

Directions: I-490 to the Bushnell Basin exit. take route 96 (Pittsford-Victor Road) south to Garnsey Road and take Garnsey east to Moseley Road (Route 250). take Moseley north and it becomes Main Street in Fairport, look for signs.

Abbott's Frozen Custard: A Rochester Area Favorite

    by Stephen-KarenConn Updated Jul 13, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

After taking us for a personally guided tour of Fairport Village on a warm July 4 day, our daughter, Laura, treated us to an Abbott's Frozen Custard. Abbott's is a regional speciality which has been very popular in Fairport and Rochester since 1902, and for good reason. It's yummy.

Favorite Dish: I tried Abbott's Famous Chocolate Almond Sundae. I ate the whole thing, and wish I had another one right now.

Address: 1220 Fairport Road, Fairport, NY 14450

Directions: Abbott's is located throughout the greater Rochester area, and in a very few other places. I have listed the address and number of the local Fairport store.

Horizons at Woodcliff: Food with a View

by KennyB Written Aug 19, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Horizons is the restaurant and lounge that is part of The Lodge at Woodcliff. High on a hill it has a commanding view of the area, the Bristol Hills and the Rochester skyline.

Don't miss a magnificent sunset and an evening's entertainment of soft piano, the music of Gap Mangione or a jazz combo on Friday & Saturday evenings.

Favorite Dish: My favorite is the rack of lamb. Cooked to perfection and delightfully seasoned. The food and it's presentation are top of the line. They also have a wine list that should please all.

They have an excellent Sunday Brunch...

With soups, breads, and desserts made daily on site, you will not be disappointed.
