Rockefeller Center Tips (23)

Visit Rockefeller Center.

Favorite thing Visit Rockefeller Center. You can ice skate there in the winter.

Rockefeller Center consists of 19 commercial buildings covering 11 acres from 49th to 52nd Streets and from 5th to 7th Avenues.

Thirty Rockefeller Plaza is the most public of the buildings and offers the NBC Studio Tour.

Fondest memory Some trivia for you. There are 488 elevators in Rockefeller Center. Also, the Radio City Music Hall (which also offers tours) seats 6,000.

The Rockefeller Center

Favorite thing The 19-building art-deco complex, stretching from 49th to 52nd Streets and Fifth to Seventh Avenues, features art by 30 different artists in its foyers, gardens and facades. On the lower level, you can find access to the subway and an ever-changing shopping and dining concourse.-There are 35 restaurants in the complex, including the famous Rainbow Room.-
The highlight of the complex is the General Electric Building, formerly the RCA (Radio Corporation of America) Building.-

Fondest memory Rockefeller Center is busiest during the winter holidays, when crowds flock to see the Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall and then to skate and admire the Christmas tree in front of the GE building. However, I recommend a visit at other times of the year, too, since there is always plenty to do and see.
In nice weather, the Channel Gardens (so called because they lie in the space between La Maison Francaise and the British Empire Building) are a nice place to relax for a few moments.-

Go to Rockafeller Center,see...

Favorite thing Go to Rockafeller Center, see the Statue of Liberty, FAO Schwartz (largest toy store), take a cab ride, ride the subway, eat a hot dog from a street vendor (pretzels are good too), shop in the village, go to the good morning amercia show, see a broadway show (you can get tickets at the half price ticket booth the day of the shows), go to central park, there are so many things to do...just have fun

Fondest memory I have only been to New York in the Winter Time. My family and I would drive from our home in PA to New York every year to see the Rockettes 'Christmas Spectacular' at Radio City Music Hall. What a show! Anyway, we would always go shopping at Macy's...if you don't want to shop you at least have to go see the holiday displays, go to FAO Schwartz, eat dinner somewhere different (MoTown Cafe is cool) and go to Rockafeller center to watch everyone skate (I always wanted to skate but the wait can be up to 3 hours at the holidays! And of course you must go see the Christmas Tree!!!

Rockefeller Plaza with Jeff...

Favorite thing Rockefeller Plaza with Jeff Koons' Puppy flower sculpture in front. I talked to the man who was watering the huge thing and he didn't sound too excited about it. It was in full bloom in June, on my first trip all alone in 2000.

In addition to having a great time on my own, I met Parker Posey again (see Dublin page for 1st story) by leaving her a letter at the box office of a play she was in called 'Taller Than a Dwarf' (w/ Matthew Broderick). She remembered me from Dublin and was so kind and wonderful again in person. We talked for 20 or so minutes and then she had to leave...I got to hold her arm steady while she rollerbladed out into the screaming crowd. I'll always remember how real she was to Ilana & me. She's just a beautiful soul. Thanks Parker.

Favorite thing pop by ROCKEFELLER CENTER to shop, dine and just generally chill out!! I loooove hanging out here. You can also pay a visit to the NBC Studios (yeah, and catch Matt Lauer in action..!). But do call up first to enquire.

Fondest memory Can you spot ROCKEFELLER CENTER's most famous monument?

Why yes, it's the golden statue of Prometheus. Behind the statue is the impressive GE Building. I heard from my New York colleagues that around the Christmas period (winter), this whole plaza turns into an ice-skating rink! In summer, an al fresco restaurant occupies this space. Next time, I'm coming to New York in winter!!!!!!

Visit the Rockerfeller Plaza.

Fondest memory I guess everybody and their aunt has been there, but it is still the place to go and see the ice-skaters in winter, and have a good cup of hot coffee later.
