Well, not quite a taste of Africa, but this African-style bistro does serve up some close facsimiles of dishes from the Giant Continent. It's a good place to relax as you're walking through the park. Try some of the fresh melons.
Directions: Located in the Africa section at the Wachovia Akiba Market
This is the best deal with the best variety in the whole area!! Make sure you eat here! There is a night that is free for the kids, but I am sorry I can't remember which night it is! Weekend nights are best if you would like seafood on the buffet! The shrimp is great! There are tons and tons of foods to choose from & you'll find you over eat if your not careful! The atmosphere is great, sometimes a little noisy but great for anyone! Average bill for 2 buffetts adult with drinks is $22.21.....free coffee if wait till your almost done with your meal!! Don't order it to start, they'll offer it for free later on!! :)
Favorite Dish: Anything that is there, but my husband would highly reccommend the jerk style chicken!! The dessert bar is great and features ice creams in 3 different flavors and plently of toppings! I love the cold boiled shrimp & their mashed potatoes! The kids love their pizza and spagetti!! There is something for EVERYONE!! Even that picky person!

This restaurant was located in the Akiba Market, right inside the entrance to Africa exhibit. There wasn't much to say about the food, except for the fact that they did offer a veggie burger, which was actually decent, in lieu of the dozens of chicken sandwich, chicken wrap options on the menu. When we went it was quite crowded with kids and their condiment bar had lettuce and tomato sitting out which didn't look all that sanitary, so we went with the plain sandwich and some fries. The food is inexpensive for being inside a place where you'd expect them to price gouge because you can't get anything else. There was even some outdoor seating. Overall, it was satisfactory. Our other option was to eat in Junction Plaza which was way crowded.
Favorite Dish: Get the veggie burger.

I believe this is the largest restaurant at the zoo and while I didn't eat here, I did take a peek inside. It's a huge place with plenty of room to accommodate even a large party of grade schoolers.
