Mansfield Things to Do

  • Ohio Bird Sanctuary

    5 out of 5 stars

You should buy food for the bird in cups .. 25 cents a cup .. birds prefer the meal worms. If you arent' freaked out by the live meal worms in your hand .. it works out better to put the food in your hands. We went on a busy day so the birds weren't hungry but still had a great time. The bird sanctuary is normally free but we went during a fall...

  • Kingwood Center Botanical Garden

    4.5 out of 5 stars

We stopped here in late spring and missed the tulip season but it was still surprisingly lovely. Great place to sit and read under a mature tree and enjoy nature and lots of birds. This would be a nice choice for taking pics or background for formal pics.(wedding, graduation ect) Hours and Admission Closed January, February & March April 1st...

  • Ohio State Reformatory

Ohio Reformatory ( Prison) Arriving in town over an hour later than our goal we did the Prison visit first since it was the focus of the trip. Arriving at the prison .. saw cute baby geese outside the gate and was awed by the beauty of the building. Did we arrive at a castle ,... manson or a old prison. I guess we came in the wrong door...

  • Great if you like birds.

This was our second trip here .. the first time we entered as they were closing so just got a quick look and vowed to return. Well we did return when they were having a fall festival .. so it wasn't free but it was well worth it. The had birds out in the open so great for pics and people to answer questions. It was cold out and we were pretty cold...

  • kingwood center gardens is a must do in...

Best bucks you'll ever spend. The cost of entry was 5 dollars a car .. if you buy something at the greenhouse they take that 5 off your bill of 25 or more.. We were not heading home so didn't purchase anything but there was a lot I really liked. We had read about this beautiful garden and it sounded interesting but I was very pleasantly surprised...

  • Free Bird Sanctuary

Bird Sanctuary Well we tried to visit her on our visit to the area but unfortunately we arrived later than we'd hoped and had to make a choice of what to do. We didn't realize the park closed at 4 and we arrived at 4. How unfortunate .. but we took a quick look at the predatory birds in cages and viewed the aviary from outside of the wire fences....

  • Malabar Farm State Park

Malabar Farm was the home of author Louis Bromfield. Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart were married there. When I was a child, this was all private but it has been a state park for a long time now. The drive to the park is beautiful, going through one of the magical places of my childhood.Bromfield was a conservationist long before global warming...

  • See the prison

On the northeast corner of Mansfield. Take highway 30 and take the exit onto hwy 545. The prison is just north of the exit, but if you are eastbound you must exit to your right, toward the south. Then you will turn north on 545.One of the photos shows the "Shawshank Tree" which plays a role in the movie; Morgan Freeman's character finds a box...

Nearly in the town center is a covered carousel, partly new hand-carved, partly restored. Closed when I got there, but it looks like a nice place to rent out for kids parties. These kinds of carousels are few and far between these days...
