Buddakan Tips (9)

Buddakan: Asian Inspired

Fabulous atmosphere in the historic district. We enjoyed our tuna pizza, duck, short ribs were a wow , and white chocolate cheesecake Was amazing. People with friendly, our waiter was knowledgeable, service was attentive – a wonderful night and a beautiful restaurant.

Favorite Dish A special and memorable dinner, everything was a while. Now I have to get Stephen Starr's cookbook!

Buddakan: Dine with a Giant Buddha

Of the many Stephen Starr restaurants in town (most are within a few blocks), this and the Continental appear to be the most popular. If you don't make a reservation a week or two in advance, expect to be offered nothing but 5pm or 10pm. The interior is very cool, with a waterwall near the entrance, serene white curtains, tall ceilings, faces on the chairs, and of course, the 10ft tall golden Buddha overseeing the diners. The Buddha sits in front of a long, lighted table that is perfect for large groups. You can ask for it, but they will not guarantee it (in case Oprah and the Flyers show up, maybe?)

The food and drinks are great. I have never been disappointed there. The bar area is the place to be, and can get very crowded with the ultra-cool. This can make the restaurant quite loud, which is the only negative feature. But you shouldn't talk with your mouth full, anyway.

Favorite Dish I like the eel dice appetizer, but everything is good..

Buddakan: Modern Asian

Fashionable lounge decor, good music, excellent exotic cocktails. Every time we come here, the service and food are consistently good. Prices are surprisingly reasonable.

Favorite Dish Toss up between the sashimi appetizer and the Angry Lobster. the sashimi has a marvelous ginger-soy sauce. the Angry Lobster comes in a fried-potato bowl layered with garlicky mashed potatoes, crisp vegetables and lobster. It's a lot of food - 3 of us shared it and were stuffed.

Buddakan: Expensive...

I did not actually eat here but know people who have. This is a very trendy restaurant, fancy , unique looking inside. They serve lots of small expensive dishes. I heard it was good here, but not super great......thats what i heard from about 4 people who ate there.

Buddakan: Dessert was great!

I met my friends here for dessert after flying into Philly. They'd met earlier for dinner so I only had a cocktail and dessert. The restaurant itself is very pretty, sleek and modern with the staff all dressed in black giving the place a very cosmopolitan feel.

Favorite Dish I had Creme Brulee which was to die for. Rich, creamy, loaded with Vanilla and with a nice crunchy top. And it was big! You probably could share one of these with someone but I'm glad I had mine all to myself! My friend ordered the "Dip Sum" Donuts which are like the Jelly variety except with no filling and are served with chocolate, whipped cream and fruit preserves for dipping. Those were yummy too.

Buddakan: Becoming a classic in Olde City Dining

One of the many Steven Starr restaurants - Buddakan is described as Asian Fusion. Food is served family style and is great for groups of 4 or more. . Make reservations well in advance. An idea to avoid long waits but to enjoy the ambiance and experience this new classic is to arrive later in the evening for dessert and drinks.

Starr has a real knack for finding a nitch and opening a great new restaurant with good food. Visit all of Starr's restaurants at: www.starr-restaurant.com

Favorite Dish Filet Mignon, Caesar Salad, Mash

Buddakan: Chi Chi Chinese

Stephen Starr's popular Chinese restaurant features an epic-sized Buddha statue presiding over a crispy elegant dining room. Beautiful lit with soft whites and muted reds dominating the color scheme - this is a room to see and be seen in. Very good food, although I'd recommend ordering carefully - my friend and I were absolutely underwhelmed by our appetizers. Shrimp and seafood dishes predominate on this fusion-oriented menu. Excellent service, good wine list - Rieslings do go well with spicy Asian food. Somewhat expensive, but worth it for the experience. Reservations highly recommended.

Favorite Dish Loved the dessert that I ordered - chocolate covered donuts with ice cream. I don't think it's very Asian, but it certainly was fun!

Buddakan

Most people described this as a Thai restaurant, but I would call it 'Asian Cuisine' in general. Very high quality foods, at premium prices..... This is probably one of my all time favorite restaurants.

I brought a very special date here, and we had a wonderful time.

Favorite Dish The Cashew Chicken and Pad Thai were ordered, both very delicious.

There were a number of great...

There were a number of great restaurants in town and I had a limited time, But here are the one's I liked.
Nan (on 40th and Chestnut) a Thai Restaurant with a wonderful Menu andGreat Desserts (try the Creme Brulee)

Buddakan (I want to say this one was on Second Street or perhaps it was South) A hip and trendy restaurant with an 'Asian Fusion' menu. The Food was great but the Chocolate lovers among you save room for the Chocolate Pagoda!

Joseph's Italian Restaurant (I am not sure where this one was but it is located in a hotel) The Italian food was excellent and of course once again Dessert was excellent!

Pat's Original Cheese Steaks
Everyone visiting Philly has got to have a Philadelphia Cheese Steak and Pat's is the Place to go. There you'll find a little Hut basically with pictures of the famous that have dined there. Gino's Steaks is right across the street so save room and head over there and compare the two.
