    Cotulla and La Salle County

by Basaic Written Apr 21, 2012

Cotulla is a town of about 3600, located in the South Texas Plains in Southwest Texas. It is named for Joseph Cotulla, a Polish immigrant who established the town site when he heard the International-Great Northern Railroad was extending its tracks through La Salle County. The towns economy was mainly based on cattle and sheep ranching until oil was discovered in the area in the 1950s. Currently there is a lot of fracking and natural gas drilling going on. Cotulla is the county seat of La Salle County. The county was named for Robert Cavalier, Sieur de la Salle, the first French explorer in Texas. The La Salle County Courthouse is currently undergoing renovation. I really liked the golden eagles on each side of the building.
