Mesquite Rodeo Tips (2)

Mesquite Rodeo

If you want a real Texas Cowboy experience, the rodeo is a MUST. It runs seasonally, with rodeos held on weekend evenings. Usually lasts around two hours. Great thing to do with the kiddies. If they are gritty enough, allow them to enter the calf race where dozens of children chase a calf to see who will get to grab the ribbon from around his tale. It is always possible that one may witness devastating injury to the men and women contestants so be prepared. A real texas treat!

Mesquite Rodeo

Something you just have to see to be believed. If you want to experience the Real cowboy thing this is the place to go.

Activities include
Bull riding, Bare back riding, barrel riding, steer wrestling, chuckwahon races

Not really for those who have a weak stomach for animals in these situations. I have been assured that the animals aren't hurt but to me it sure looked like the cowboys were a bit rough in the steer wrestling

The coolest one was the Cowboy Poker where 5 cowboys sit at a table in the midle of the arena and play poker while a big bull runs at them. The last cowboy sitting wins the prize.

The weirdest activity was the calf scramble. They take all the children into the arena and then they let 2 very tame calves out with different coloured card on them. The girls have to get one colour of card and the boys the other.
I have never felt sorry for 2 wee animals that have about a million kids charging them to get the card - that seemed cruel

Good for a different nights entertainment and make sure you buy a proper cowboy hat while you are there
