I lived on the Island about 10 years ago. It was fun espeially since I had a Big Ass Truck and spent most of my time up north between 5/6 and Mansfield cut playing. In the sand with friends and pissing off the local dune goons(they had the towing permit and charged 100 to 500 bucks for a simple tow to families on a budget vacation) by pulling them out for free. Those nasty f***ere used to churn up access 6 in their POS truck and lay in wait for a family in a Hundai and charge them way more than their weekend budget to pull them out. Way wrong but we usually beat them to it and fixity free. If you look up the name of the vendor you will see a common denominator between police towing and some other big county vendors. Just saying. Not all were bad but if you look at other posts....... back to Isla Blanca Park. The best restaurant on the island was Dolphin Cove Oyster Bar! Joe Buck used to own it and he sold it to a younger guy tha completely kept it real. Its on the Brownsville Channel and you can see the huge container ships as well as the shrimp fleet going by less than 300 yards away! If there is the right storm there is a sweet surfing break through the jetties right past the volleyball court. Last stoom there was a Beautiful Young Lady wearing out that break on her short board good beer good food and great scenery! I hope its still open. I'm from New Orleans and they had the BEST gumbo ever! Everything else is way cool and there are always dolphins in the cove. Have fun don't speed or drive drunk( cabs are about 6 bucks anywhere on the island) so takeit and get yours the next day. Peace!
On the southernmost tip of South Padre Island, Isla Blanca is one of the largest parks in Texas and the crown jewel of the Cameron County Park System. In the park there is more than one mile of clean white beach along the Gulf of Mexico, a fishing jetty, picnic and playground areas, concessions, 600 R.V. camping spaces a boat ramp, and more. Although there are several places on South Padre Island with free beach access, the $3.00 per car fee to Isla Blanca Park is more than worth it because of the many ammenities provided.
