It truly is an amazing phenomenon, however if you get a chance to be in Waco on a given weekend night (Thursday is included here), I would recommend you to have dinner at George's, and then head on over to Scruffy's. Around 12:01 am, one minute after George's closes... there is a line of cars migrating to Scruffy's to hear some great live music. Bowling for Soup, a popular band in America used to play here when they were a garage band, and there is a long list of others!
Dress Code: Waco is an interesting mix... you will find fully dressed frat boys (button down, khakis and red wing boots) down to the rugby players just off their pitch in slides and rugby jerseys.
Either dress code, you will get the coldest pint of Guiness in Texas... guarenteed!

Go to Austin for nightlife. Otherwise, go to Midnight Rodeo, or whatever they're calling it this month.
It's big. Basically, a country bar with 80's & 90's music, as well as kareoke. Very few good Metal clubs in town, and most of them are hidden.
Dress Code: Shirt tucked in with belt for guys, pretty much anything goes with the women.
Directions: I-35 to Highway 6, take the Bosque exit, take a left under the overpass, and turn into the shopping center after the next stoplight (about halfway up a hill, entrance next to Texaco).Add to your Trip Planner
