Teresópolis Things to Do

  • Vila Cecilia

Vila Cecilia was built in the early 1920's. Its classic architecture sets it apart from much of the other central buildings in the area which to me have little character, so it is nice to see such old styles well kept and refurbished. It has in the past functioned as the primary post office of the city, it has been part of the university and...

  • Matriz de Santa Tereza

Located in the heart of the old town, the main church is a landmark hard to miss. It is relatively small in comparison to those in nearby cities, but its size matches that of Teresopolis perfectly. Its pointed steeple is typical of the colonial times and influences. It was originally built in 1855, but has witnessed a series of demolitions,...

  • Scenic hikes at Serra dos Orgaos park

Discover some waterfalls and great rock formations during your nature hikes at Serra dos Orgaos park.

  • Serra dos Orgaos Park

Our driver took us to Serra dos Orgaos Park. This large park has numerous hiking trails and interesting fauna and flora to explore. There are trails for beginners and really advanced hikers - some trails can take you days to complete and I'm sure you will be rewarded by breathtaking views. We went for a quick hike through a well marked path. The...

  • Stop and smell the orchids

We hired a driver for the day who drove us to see some sites in Teresopolis. We made a quick stop to the Orchid Farm to see some of the beautiful orchids that grow in Brazil.

  • Horseback Riding

You can hire a guide to take you on horseback riding trails. The tour takes about 2 hours. The views from the tops of the mountains are amazing.

  • Fondue in Brazil

The ambience at the Stube was great. The decor was very Swiss German. The fondue here was great - "fondue in Brazil???" you might ask...It was just as good as the ones I've tasted in Zurich.

There are so many places to eat there!!If you are invited to stay in a family house who lives there in the winter, they will certainly surprise you with a smooth chocolate or cheese fondue!!If you rent your own cabin,as my family used to,the grocery stores sells special cheese mix for fondue, easy to try!!For those who heard about the famous...

Teresópolis Transportation

  • Getting to Teresopolis

Fazenda Rosa dos Ventos helped us arrange our transfer from the Rio airport to Teresopolis. Our driver (I forgot his name) was extremely friendly - he even treated us to Brazilian cafezinho on our way to Teresopolis. The trip is about three hours from Rio.

It's quite easy to get in Teresopolis from Rio,the roads are excelent, and the signs are everywhere because it's a very popular vacations / weekends city.Teresopolis is about 90km from Rio.PICTURE:Pedra Do Sino (bells's rock )

  • Don't Forget Insurance

If your current health insurance doesn't cover you while your abroad, you should consider getting international travel insurance just in case something should go wrong.

Teresópolis Shopping

  • Pedestrian Street Shops

The Calçada da Fama (Walk of Fame) is not like the one you'd think of in Hollywood, but it is rather a popular street with shops and street vendors. There are lots of boutiques selling clothes, lots of shoe stores, a few beauty salons, etc. The pedestrian street is always busy with people and is sometimes less of a place to go shopping, but more of...

  • Outdoor Clothes and Crafts Market

Near the southern end of town in the Praça Higino da Silveira, this outdoor market has a lot of local crafts, clothes and food. It is relatively small, which fits the motif of the small town, but it offers a sampling of everything. There are clothes and typical crafts at reasonable prices. Prices will be less than what you'd find in Rio for...

There malls here, but the tourist atraction for shopping is the art fair what happens in the city center, you can find wood handcrafts, beautiful wool sweaters,leathers,etc..The art fair happens in Higino Da Silveira square, right in the city center!

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

For the interesting in long tracks or *all by
myself * tracks: it's not a shame to admit that the place requests a map and even more than one and PREVIOUS look at it
( for long tracks--pls do not start checking the map at the park itself!!!Even if you're a tourist from other countries, maps are available in all languages I can remember, and the good hotels in Rio should have plenty of information at the councierge desk!!)
The park offers splendid cristal water at its waterfalls and cascades along the tracks BUT..the big storms are very frequent in this area, and it can happen very sudden, and, when it happens, the water coming from the high parts of the mountains, flows down the ways in such power that many tragedies occured here!!
If the weather is unstable,it'll be better not to swin in the cascades or small lakes and even not to approach those areas!!!

Favorite thing: The name Teresopolis was given to the village in hounour of Empress Teresa Cristina, wife of emperor Don Pedro II.
The treasures of this place are its nature and also its rich gastronomy experience!!
Teresopolis is the higher city in the state of Rio (910 m heigh ).
The National Park ( *Dos Orgaos* )brings to the area tourists from Brazil and abroad, specially those who apreciate the fauna & flora so characteristic of the Atlantic Forest.
The people from Rio use to go to Teresopolis & Petropolis in the winter, the only oportunity we have to dress some kind of winter clothes.
For those looking for a romantic honey moon,it's definately the place!
    PICTURE:Dedo De Deus.

Fondest memory: We used to celebrate my birthday there, and it always reminds me when all the family were together!
