If I could remember: Excellent local food
I don't remember the name of the place, but it's in front of the big supermarket that's right on the costanera, on the beach side. If you go to the pier, you'll find the supermarket on your left and the restaurant on the right hand corner ahead.
Favorite Dish: Try the cazuela, typical chilean plate. It's quite good for those rainy cold days!!!Add to your Trip Planner
Hosteria: The best place to eat
The Hosteria is the best place to eat in Chaiten. It has everything, from huge sandwiches, seafood, and steaks with chips.
It can be more expensive than other places, but it's definately good.
Favorite Dish: I ate steak and salad and it was quite good. The "locos" (avalons) seemed quite good as seen from my table.Add to your Trip Planner

The ferry from Quellon
Navimag is the company that takes you from Chaiten to Quellon on their ships. If you come from Chiloe (which is a good route), this is how to reach Chaiten.
Be sure to book in advance, even more if you've got a car. Since there are only 2 departures each week, the boat can be quite full, specially during the summer season.Add to your Trip Planner
Chaitén What to Pack
Wind & Rain
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Chaiten is usually windy and rainy. Just take a look at the picture and you'll see the clouds coming. So bring up your coat and no umbrella. And of course, warm clothes!!!!
Photo Equipment: There might not be Advantix camera film or even Memory Sticks for digital camera, so bring up everything!!!
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: I wouldn't recommend camping. Too much rain!!!Add to your Trip Planner
Chaitén Off The Beaten Path
Chaiten has only one ATM and is located next to the square, at the Banco del Estado. I would highly recommend you to get some cash here, since most of the southern small towns away from everything don't have any cashier.Add to your Trip Planner
