    HELADO DE PAILA

by swesn Written Dec 24, 2007

This is interestingly a traditional Ecuadorean snack - ice-cream with the flavours mixed in a huge pan.

The ice-cream flavours are mainly fruity. You will see signs 'HELADO DE PAILA' everywhere. Try it!

    CEVICHE

by swesn Written Dec 24, 2007

'Ceviche' are shrimps or fish served in a tangy sourish lemon juice or tomato sauce, mixed with onions, parsley and some spices. This is usually served in a bowl with a side dish of salty popcorn or fried plantains.

This is a very popular dish along the coasts, from Ecuador, Peru to Chile. Do try it!

Alladin Restaurant: Best Shwarma's I've ever had!

    by bebegringa26 Written Feb 1, 2008

Alladin is my all time favorite place to go. It sells hookas and has comfy couches. Yummy cold Pilsensers and the best Shwarmas ever! I've eaten so many in my life and nothing compares! Alladin is always my first stop when I go to Ecuador!

    Favorite Dish: Shwarmas!

  • Las Nuestras: In Quito, don't miss the typical empanadas

    by toy_leroy Updated Apr 4, 2011

If you travel to Ecuador and are the kind of typical food lover, like me, I highly recommend visiting Las Nuestras Empanadas Fast Food Restoran. Las Nuestras offers about 30 different types of Empanadas and delicious natural fruit juices (I recommend the Naranjilla Batido, just delicious!).

Favorite Dish: Typical empanadas from Ecuador include the ones that are best in this restoran: Morocho (hard to express for us gringos, just say MOROTJO so that guy understands what you want) Empanadas, Shrimp Empanadas and Carne Picante Empanada.

  • Creta (inside Mall Del Rio) Cuenca: Gourmet Food at Reasonable Prices!

by EcuadorDeb Updated Feb 17, 2007

The food at Creta is one of the best in Cuenca, well presented, delicious and reasonable. The atmosphere is posh and modern, with a bar area that is has very comfortable chairs you could sit in for hours. The tables, dressed with white linen are also nice as well as the service, attentive. This restaurant is a gem you don't expect to find within a mall.

Favorite Dish: The duck, our favorite, though probably the most expensive ($16.00) on the menu, but well worth the price if you enjoy the bird. It melts in your mouth, is very moist and seasoned well. My husband and I were very impressed, thinking "this chef knows what he's doing".

?: Cuenca : Great place for lunch - Super pour dej

by Maillekeul Written Apr 1, 2004

I would call this place (whose name I never found) : "El taller del artista" ! Indeed, an artist runs the place and has transformed this place in a huge artistic restaurant. Few people come here, and you can enjoy its width and peaceful atmosphere...

Favorite Dish: 1 USD for a good "almuerzo" (lunch), you won't find it everywhere in Cuenca !

1 USD pour un bon "almuerzo" (dejeuner), vous ne trouverez pas ca partout a Cuenca !

    Tropical fruits

by DanielF Written Jul 27, 2004

The climate and latitude of Equator are ideal for growing all kinds of tropical fruits: tree tomato, papaya, babaco, naranjilla, maracuya... Either as refreshing juices or as a snack, having a good dose of vitamines was never so tasty for me.

    Naranjillas

there are so many, but the hot dogs at El gordo y El negro in Urdesa (Guayaquil) are the absolute best. I don't know what the green sauce is, but it makes the hotdog.

Favorite Dish: arroz con camarones, the seafood was fabulous.

Lunch in the Porto Lucia Yacht Club
Nice and quiet, and to look over the sea from your table.

Favorite Dish: Cerviche de Pescado (fish). It's like a cold soup with fish and tomato and lime juice. Very refreshing on a hot day.

    by Frans_B Written Aug 25, 2002

There is no particular restaurant I would mention here. There are a lot of good places to eat in every city. It depends on your taste which place is the best.

Favorite Dish: The most spectacular 'thing' to eat is 'cuy'. You get teeth and nails included but it is a real Ecuadorian delicacy! You have to try!
