Architectural Legacy of Caracas Cathedral
Caracas Cathedral, established in the mid-16th century, stands as a testament to the city's religious history.
Initially a mud-walled chapel, it was rebuilt in response to the 1641 earthquake and remodeled extensively in the late 19th century. The cathedral showcases splendid gilded altars and elaborate side chapels, including the notable Bolívar family chapel, adorned with a modern sculpture of The Liberator mourning his lineage. Bolívar was baptized here, although the original baptismal font is now located at Casa Natal de Bolívar.
