You may have seen this on the national news, or not, but due to Switzerland closing its borders for refugees, they have been stuck in Como City and up to now have been sleeping rough in the main rail station there. The numbers are increasing daily, and the local authorities have prepared a 'holding' area away from the station so that they can live more comfortably. Until this is complete and they have all moved into it, you might want to travel via a different route.

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO TRENITALIA REGIONALE TRAIN TICKETS

    Transportation Alerts/Strikes
posted in Italy by goodfish Online Now Aug 1, 2016 at 2:16 PM
    0 Comments

As of August 1, 2016, paper tickets for unreserved regionale trains must be purchased for a specific DATE as well as destination, and must be used by midnight of the designated date shown on the ticket. They can no longer be pre-purchased for a destination with the intent of using them them on ANY date within the next 60 as was previously allowed.

The tickets must be validated prior to boarding, and are good for 4 hours - versus the previous 6 - after validation. Passengers will be allowed to complete their journey without penalty if the ticket expires while they?re on the train to the designated destination but are not allowed to interrupt the originally designated journey at any point.

This does not mean that you can?t pre-purchase tickets; the important change is that you must now specify the date you?re going to use them. They can be changed without penalty only once up to 23.59 of the day prior to the designated travel date. They can also be refunded, subject to usual restrictions. This does not apply to electronic regionale tickets as those are already date specific but do not require validation.

This is an attempt to reduce fraudulent, multi-journey use of unvalidated tickets.

Trenitalia has not yet provided this information in English but I expect they will shortly. This notice is also valid without expiration or until/unless Trenitalia makes another change.

To go from Copenhagen to Malmö, you have to take the metro or the train to the Airport. Disembark, go to the other track, go through an ID-control. Embark on the empty train with loads of other passengers. This trains stops for 10-15 minutes in Hyllie (first stop on the Swedish side) where the police go through the train asking for passports.
It's been this way since 4. January, and will, according to Swedish authoroties, remain so untill 4. November. There are possibilities fur prolonging the situation even longer.

The Ferrotramviaria line between Andria and Corato is closed due to the clean up and investigation into the fatal head-on collision between two trains that resulted in at least 23 deaths. This rail company is a private rail company providing commuter service between Bari and locations to the north, including the airport.

Andria/Corato are near the end of the line well north of the airport (Bari is at the south end), which means that the Bari to airport service should be uninterrupted. This event will not affect most tourists.

It is not yet known how long the track will be closed.

Road and Building Closures in Downtown Dallas

Four days after the ambush that killed 5 Dallas police officers and wounded at least 8 more, there are still roads and buildings closed in a part of the western part of downtown Dallas. These closures are due to forensic activities as investigators look for evidence related to the shootings and take a zillion photos of each piece found.

It is likely that this area will continue to be impacted until Wednesday, July 13.

Fortunately for visitors to Dallas, most of the things that they would want to see, like the 6th Floor Museum, the Dallas World Aquarium, the museum in the Old Red Courthouse, and Union Station, are just outside of the closed zone, and are open to the public. However, there will be confused traffic until all the roads are open. One DART station is in the closed zone; DART is obviously still operating, but it may be that that station is closed (not to worry, there are several stations downtown).

In the main, El Centro College is closed, along with its parking garage in which the shooter was eventually cornered and killed.

There are no security concerns at this time.

I just read a story on MSN of a New York Times article concerning the apparent cover up by the government of the massive fish die off and toxic pollutants being dumped in the waters of Vietnam.

    Here is the link;

    msn.com/en-us/news/world/tox...

I have checked daily for updates to the issue in the Thanh Nien Newspaper on line and they have apparently decided (or it was decided for them) not to run any further stories, after the government said that they had a finding but would give no explanations as they were "still investigating".

The government according to the article halted fishing in one village and as compensation gave the a bag of rice and 50,00 dong. ($2.20USD)

The feeling by many people is that the government cares more for a steel company (and lining their own pockets) than it does for it's own people, the environment and by extension, tourists that visit the country.
