Home of the Cute Panda
by eho
Visiting the panda research centre was no doubt the highlight of my entire trip. I read that the pandas are most active early in the morning (before 10:30am). I got there late -- after the feeding time at around 11 am -- but was lucky enough to find the pandas playing with each other.
To go there, I took a bus to the north train station, then changed to the #9 bus and got off at Jiang Jun Bei (the turnoff to the research centre). From there I took a taxi to the centre (it is possible to walk the remaining distance). I was told that bus #302 will get you there (I did see bus stops with that number along the way); however, I could not find where that bus originated.

Sichuan is globally famous as the home of the Giant Panda, and as you might expect, the Chengdu Zoo features one of the best displays of these intriguing creatures in the world. The zoo also provides full information on international efforts to protect and preserve this endangered species.
Visit the Leshan Giant Buddha - 3

It can be quite warm in this lush area of the Sichuan Province and I suggest you take plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat and a day pack with you. The stairs can not only be quite arduous, the crowds can back up and you can be left standing on the stairs for up to 30 minutes before you reach the bottom.
After you enjoy the scenery at the bottom, and take numerous photographs, you start to realize that you have to climb the stairs back to the top….now that is another story.
