The shops at Ossu-Kannon have some really great deals and some really unique stores. I found a complete kimono set for only about 10,000 yen (about $75 US). Just get off at the Kamemaezu or Ossu-Kannon stops on the tsurumai line.Hidaka matsuri (the naked festival) is the most insane celebration I have ever seen. It is a practice almost 1000 years old where men from local villages wrap themselves in cotton gauze and carry bamboo poles in offering to a shinto temple. This usually happens in February so everyone is cold and drunk. After dedicating the poles everyone stands around and waits for the appearance of 'the Man of God' any participants who touch him will have a year of good luck. Unfortunately for the Man of God these men are drunk and packed by the thousands in a very small area.
