Osaka or somewhere else?
We will arrive KIX/Kansai Int'l airport around 18:30, after custom, it would be 19:00, where would be the best to stay for just one night and close to major JR station, we may have one morning to explore the place. (Next day, we will take train to Takayama.) Any suggestion for hotels, around $100 or less/night would be fine.
Thanks for any advice!

Hotel Shin-Osaka is right next to the JR Shin-0saka Station. They have a web site

The Hilton Hotel is right outside Umeda Station. You can take a shuttle bus from KIX to Umeda for around US$15. I don't know the hotel rates but I'm sure they have a website. It's in a great central location and next to shopping and restaurants.

You may consider staying at the Toyoko Inn in Shin-Osaka. There are two locations. An English website is available at:

This is a basic business hotel. I have stayed in another Toyoko Inn before in Japan and it was quite acceptable. The rate is very reasonable (around 8,000 to 10,000 Yen for two people per night). The room is small (but so are all hotel rooms in Japan) but has everything you need.
Shin-Osaka is the major JR station that has the Shinkansen bullet trains. The heart of Osaka (around Umeda and Osaka JR station) is only a few minutes away by subway.
