Travel Tips for Busan

Hiking the hills of Busan Pt 2.

by Intrepidduck

Korean hikers are not complete with out their mobile phones, Geumjeong Mountain makes an ideal point to call from it seems. It isn't recommended to climb this peak on weekends as it is just far to crowded, infact spare the natural environment and avoid it altogeather.

Busan: Micro Breweries

by Intrepidduck about various locations

Busan is experiencing a new wave of micro-breweries like what Australian and European cities experienced in the late 1980s. These make a welcome change to the dull Korean draught beer on tap which is really crap quality. Atmosphere however hasn't much improvement with generally uncomfortable kitsch saroundings and music you have to ask the management to "please turn down".

There is as it appears two varieties of beer available, going under various psuedo European names. But there comes a light / cloudy coloured and a dark malt coloured beer on tap. No fancy "Hemp Beers" or meads found here. House Beer! These establishments all use similar equipment and have the same two varieties of house brew - light and dark. However the quality really varies from place to place as does the atmosphere.

"Charlies Brua Hus", is in a good Nampo-dong location, but has truely bad quality flat and sometimes warm brew reflecting the unprofessionalism of the place jumping onto the house-brew-bandwagon. While "Lee's Brew House", located near Hadan subway station on the main drag and upstairs, is not in a great location. However they have importantly put great care into their beer quality and have a hospitable service. See picture, one can view all the working equipment.

There are a number of other variable establishments in the Seomyeon area, centrally located and very busy of an evening.

Jagalchi Fish Market- Scary looking fish

by bpacker

Expect to see all kinds of sea creatures when you're in Jagalchi Fish Market, Busan. This place is not called the biggest fish market in Korea for nothing! For the life of me, I don't know how this scary looking fish is cooked. Neither do I know its name. Now, I suppose the head would have to go off first before it's curried, grilled or fried. Failure to do so might scare the hell out of the diner. Just imagine this scary looking thing beside your plate of chips...

Would any kind reader please tell me the name of this fish??

Dynamic Busan!

"Busy city"

I come to Busan every so often to get out of my smaller city of Changwon. The best place to go for a foriegner is Hyundae Beach. It has some interesting places to see and has some great places to eat. During the summer it is so crowded you cant even see the beach. But once summer is "over" the koreans wont go at all. Even if it is hot outside still and the water is perfect, they wont step foot near the beach. So definitly try going during the spring or fall.

"The aquarium at Hyundae"

This is one of the coolest places to go in Busan. It has a huge aquarium filled with everything from sharks to sea turtles. If you interested in marine life this is a must see. You can even pay to swim with the sharks!

Busan, Korea

"Waterfront"

The waterfront area is under heavy development, and the land prices are astronomical. Space is at a premium everywhere in Korea, with 50 million people in a fairly small country. Busan has about 5 million people, and Seoul has about 12 (hard to say, as you have a greater metropolitan area, and that, depending on how you measure it, could push the total to 20 million). The area surrounding this shot features the Chosun Westin Hotel (expensive!) and Haeundae Beach (one of very few beaches in Korea, and come holiday time, absolutely JAMMED with people).
