Travel Tips for Ischgl

The Real Locals

by desert_princess

Sometimes , If you are lucky ,you will get to see the real locals - the people that remember Ischgl before tourism came in. Go early in the morning in the tiny side streets ,you might have the chance to spot a local farmer bringing his milk to the hotel or guesthouse nearby.

here we speak russian....

by desert_princess

"here we speak russian".says the sign on the rental ski shop at the bottom of the Pardatchgrat gondola. So far so good. The only thing is that it's written in the wrong alphabet - so how the hell you expect the russians to read it if it's in latin and not in Cyrilic?
The thing is that Ischgl is invaded with russian tourists and most of them don't speak anything but their mother language.I don't want to be rude , but don't expect that Austrians will learn russian overnight .

Ischgl is a popular place for skiing, but also a very pleasant and attractive place to visit in the summer. Nestled high up in the Paznaun Valley, it is situated on the Silvretta Pass road, on the south bank of the Trisanna River; flanked by the Silvretta Mountains to the south and the Verwall Mountains to the north.

It is also close to the Swiss and Italian borders as a result of which we were able to join excursions to Scuol in Switzerland and Lake Reschen and Churburg Castle in Italy, and to take the 'Smugglers' Route' into Switzerland. We also visited Landeck' and St Anton' in Austria. You can find out about the other things that we did whilst staying in Ischgl in our 'Things to Do' page.

We travelled with Oak Hall Expeditions and were acommodated at the Hotels Verwall and Chasa Nova.

You can find the full album of pictures from our stay in Ischgl at Webshots.
