Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
This tip is a contribution from our daughter. The Hotel Duquesne was a charming place. The staff was very conscientious about our safety and comfort. They were also friendly and cheerful; though they spoke English, they obligingly endured our rusty French because we wanted to practice. :-) On the down side, they weren’t especially informed about the area and they didn’t relay telephone messages well. The hotel had a pretty lobby-lounge with a street view. Periodically, the staff offered complimentary drinks from a small bar. We often found hotel guests mingling in the lobby, socializing or waiting for the elevator. (The elevator was slow and small; it was a tight squeeze for two people, two rollerboards, and two backpacks.) There was a rustic, cavern-like restaurant in the basement; we didn’t eat there, as we found it too dark. However, we had an *incredible* Continental breakfast delivered up to us on the morning that we left. Beautiful, lavish, and delicious -- most persuasive wake up call ever! :-) Each of the rooms is decorated in a different color and style. Ours was simultaneously elegant and bright, with red brocade and gold accents. There were plenty of pillows and blankets, but a strange dearth of waste baskets. The bathroom was very small. Interestingly, the shower had a door that was only chest-high to shield it from the rest of the bathroom (rather than a fully enclosed shower). My friend is 6’1” and had no difficulty showering while standing upright. However, we had to be careful not to leave toiletries where they might get splashed.
The best part, hands down, was the view. It was definitely worth the extra price. We had a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower and its twice-nightly light show. I had no idea I’d enjoy the light show as much as I did! Sitting on the balcony, wrapped up in a blanket, it felt like having balcony seats at a concert performance: very private and comfortable, yet immersive. We saw the light show from other vantage points in the city, but nothing topped our balcony experience. N.B. We had to rearrange the furniture in the room in order to have chairs and a table out on the balcony. Our balcony didn’t come furnished, nor was there extra furniture available when we requested it. That said, we really liked moving some of the pieces out of the room, as it gave us more space indoors and made the balcony more inviting. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Duquesne Eiffel Hotel: Comfortable hotel in the 7th
| | | | |
The Duquesne Eiffel Hotel is located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, close to the Eiffel Tower, Invalides and the Musee Rodin. We like this area of Paris, it's quiet and safe, close enough to the sights to either walk or take a short metro ride, close to the Rue cler area where there are a lot of restaurants and patisseries. We stayed at a budget hotel the last time we visited and were disappointed so this time I was looking for something more midrange and found it at this hotel. The reception staff was pleasant, although not particularly helpful on restaurants. They had a computer set up in the lobby where you could use the internet for free which was very nice. Breakfast was not included in our rate of €102, it was an additional €11 so we got breakfast at a local patisserie instead. We had a standard double room, there are also comfort rooms and superior rooms, some of which appear to have a view of the Eiffel Tower and balconies. We booked the room on booking.com, the rate was lower than their normal rate I assume because it was August when a lot of people avoid going to Paris since a lot of Parisians vacation at that time.
Room 58-our room was not overly large but certainly big enough for the two of us. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows. The room had a plasma TV with the extremely odd feature of being able to rotate the picture so it was upside down or reversed, air conditioning, minibar with just a small amount of extra space for your own stuff and modern decor. No view from our room. Bathroom-plenty spacious, shower and tub with good water pressure and plenty of hot water, toiletries included shampoo/bath gel on the wall in the tub, lotion, emory boards and a few other things I didn't need. Hairdryer in bathroom. Leave a Comment
