Slightly no-frills but this is more than made up for in their excellent location, clean, large, and nicely decorated rooms, giant bathrooms with excellent tubs, safe-feeling courtyard with windows facing out, and staff.
Did we mention how perfect the location was? It's in the middle of everything, and also, for a budget travel, you get much, much more than you bargain for since it's next to a very nice, inexpensive supermarket.
The staff is, in a word, awesome.
We stayed for quite a while. Over ten days. We really loved this hotel and definitely would stay here again for our next trip to Paris.
Unique Quality: -Immaculate customer service
-Perfect location across from the Jardin du Luxembourg, where you can literally have your breakfast each morning, and also, within a short walk to three metro stops, tons of shops, independent cinemas, a block from the Sorbonne, and a ten-minute walk to Notre Dame, which if you get up early, you can see without the crowds!
-Large bath tubs and very clean
-Best price and value of any hotel for this area
-Quiet despite being in a big hub of the city
-Near many cool old book shops and cafes, as well as conveniently located near a nice supermarket (for any traveler, this is ideal)
-Feels very "Parisian" and not like a big chain; quaint
-Shuttle to and from airport
-Tons of tour info, although we didn't take any, it was available
-Internet access
-Patio

Hotel Excelsior. Sounds fancy eh? Well, this is a pretty basic but still a very nice little hotel (65 rooms) with a great location in the 5th arrondissement. A nice area and with great opportunities within walking-distance. The rooms are nice and comfortable, but you won't get a good view here. I have stayed at this hotel the last two summers... mainly because of the location, the reasonable price-level and the easy booking-system on their websites, where you can check the availability of rooms on any specific dates, and book right away. The staff is friendly and willing to speak english. The hotel also offers Internet, breakfast, an elevator and luggage-storage. I highly recommend it!

$55 for 1 or 2; maybe $100 for 5-6 Great location, wonderful people. Top floor has a room with beamed celing that sleeps 6 and has a frig and table for eating. Rooms have been recently upgraded with new mattresses. A real bargain.
