Much improved since last time....

I decided, against my better judgement, to give this hotel another go after having a bad experience there in 2007 with two exceptionally rude desk clerks. I'm pleased to report that it has greatly improved in the area of welcome and helpfulness and the hotel itself remains clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. I paid 65Euro for a single room.

Unique Quality: The location is the thing that attracts me. It is right across the road from Gare Montparnasse and the Metro and is also very close to the Air France Shuttle stop from CDG. The area is a favourite of mine with some lovely restaurants close by not to mention some very good shopping, (C & A, and a branch of Galleries Lafayette). The metro (Montparnasse Bienvenue) is also a major station with several lines passing through. The Eiffel Tower is within walking distance, if you like walking, as are many other major attractions. The Tour Montparnasse is right opposite. Book through www.venere.com or www.bookings.com.

Easy access to all the major sites

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Tea & coffee making facilities in room. Had no problems with noise. Close to main metro station - Montparnasse Bienvenue - which is a link for line 4,6,12 and 13.

North but Near

We had three nights. There was a little used courtyard where we gathered the first day to rest. The staff were generally helpful but not extremely knowledgable. It was easy enought to find a nearby subway stop and had a great view of Sacre Couer. There was a market very close where we bought bread, wine, and snacks. Breakfast was simple and continental but delicious.

Unique Quality: A great view of Sacre Couer from the higher floors.

Great Location!

My husband and I stayed 4 nights at TimHotel Montparnasse in December for our "Christmas in Paris" vacation. The hotel is actually split up into 3 - 4 buildings of 4 story high and about 4 hotel rooms per floor.

The location was great! It is right opposite of the 'Tour du Montparnasse' so, it's always easy to find home.

Gare Montparnasse (train station) is also within 5 minutes walk. If you want to go to Brussels, Belgium from Paris, you'd use Montparnasse.

The metro was also a block away and is one of the bigger metro stops with four lines (ligne 4, 12, 13, and 6). Great location, we were never more than 15 minutes away from the excitement.

Unique Quality: This is a 2* hotel so keep that in mind. The room is a bit small, when compared to American standards. It's approximately 100 sq. ft big. So there is definitely not much space for luggages.

There is NO iron / iron board available.
There is NO blow dryer available.
There is NO Safe in-room.

However, they have good service. Our rooms were made up every day. The hotel maid was very nice and made sure I had enough tea packets.

There is a electric water kettle along with tea packets, bisquits, and coffee mix for guests. It is replenished daily.

There is a small closet that you can put your clothes in but for the 2 of us, that was not enough. No big deal, we're on travel, so we lived out of suitcases.

The elevator is small, so only one person and one luggage piece can squeeze in. Again, not a big deal since it's only 4 floors.

There is a shower & tub, which we utilized after a hard day of sight-seeing and fun!

The hotel also serves daily breakfasts of yogurt, croissants, cereals, juice but we never tried it because it was 8 - 10 euros and we got a much better selection at Galerie Lafayette shopping area across the street....at Pomme du Pain or BonJournee.

Overall, I'd recommend it and we'd love to go back. The hotel concierge was nice and gave us great directions and recommendations!

Again, great location! Lots of restaurants around the area plus movie theaters.

Hotels in the Montparnasse area

We would appreciate hearing about reasonably priced (50 euros +) in the Montparnasse area. Thanks very much. Dave and Carolyn from the Yukon Territory in Northern Canada.

I can tell you a hotel to avoid: Hotel Odessa. I stayed there one night and was not very impressed. It was OK but I am sure you can find a better one for the same price.

Timhotel Montparnasse is in an excellent location right across the street from the Montparnasse Tower and Gare Montparnasse. Prices of course depend on what time of year you are planning to visit but the Timhotel is usually cheaper than most. See my tip on my Paris page.

Gee! You're looking for a hotel for 50€ a night in Paris! You might find one but not in Montparnasse area and you won't like it either!
If you definitely want to have a budget hotel, I recommend hotel Armstrong Paris, Porte de Montreuil, excellent value for money hotel I know of. Double room starts at 46€.
Otherwise if you are ready to increase your budget, in the Montparnasse area, I recommend Hotel Elysee Montparnasse, rue de la Gaiete. It is a great hotel that has, to start with, the major pluspoint of having been totally renovated a couple of years ago and you can see it. It has definitely charm with huge paintings of famour french painters in the room and has an artistic atmosphere. The other good point is that it is in a vibrant area of Paris full of theaters, restaurants, cafes. http://www.elyseemontparnasse-paris-hotel.com/
