Doesn't worth the money - any hostel but this one

I stayed for two nights with a friend during our summer vacation. We ended up with three last days in Paris with no accomodation so ended up in Young and Happy.
Very frustrating experience.

Unique Quality: Hostel young and happy
• The bathroom had a broken door but the night staff member was too arrogant to regard the problem
• Sperm on the blankets, and they charge you for bed-sheet
• The charge you for wifi and for their computers
• No hot water (we both tried)
• You have to press for water in the douche, the stream continues only for two minutes.
• The size of a two people's bed is one and a hald (110 cm wide). They call it french bed size. What they mean is you get for 58.5 a single wide bed in a single room. For the same conditions, but 8 euro less a night, try hostel jeune in rue du fourbourg, close to the bastille.
• For the same money and free internet, free bed-seets , fare breatfast and clean holding, try hostel-coulaincourt close the sacre-cuer
• The best area to eat is the bollenviele – the workers area. A rough, varied and cheap neiboughrhood.

Useful tips: in Pompidou centre you can use free wifi and free toilette on the first floor of the
building
A free and excellent collection of 19th century art and free toilette – Petit Palais
The park and lavillete, with night screening of films is great and the film was in English with subtitles

You'll find loads of eatieries nearby this hostel

Great location. Definitely a recommended place. Walking distance to St Germain des Pres and Pantheon. Around 20 mins walk to the River Seine and Notre Dame.. Charming Restaurants along Rue Mouffetard. Rooms are basic with bunk beds but you cannot expect much from a hostel.

Unique Quality: The hostel in located in a good neighbourhood. On rue Mouffetard itself you'll be to find quaint shops and restaurants, and there is a laundromat nearby. You cannot expect much from a hostel, but you'd have to watch out for the really narrow stairwell and corridors. But it's plus points overweighs this - being in a good neighbourhood and that the road (rue Mouffetard) is a not a busy road. Suitable for those who don't want to wake up to busy morning traffic. It's nearest attraction is the Pantheon and some walking distance to Boulevard St Germain and Boulevard St Michel. There is also an open market around the area. Be sure to try the crepes and paninis from the takeaways from the upper side of Rue Mouffetard.

Hostel Young and Happy (5th district)

The Young & Happy has an unbeatable location in the heart of the Latin Quarter, close to the Pantheon and Arènes du Lutece. Rue Mouffetard (my favorite street in Paris) has a fruit market most mornings and there are some great cafés.

métro: Place Monge

phone: fax: 01 47 07 22 24
(open all year)

Unique Quality: Very central and in of the most beautiful strict in Paris (my favorite).

I stayed at the young and happy hostel.
Young & Happy Hostel is located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, worldwide known for its student life in the numerous cafés,bars & restaurants, parks and galeries. it is very centrally located which means that the major tourist attractions are not far away: Notre dame Cathedral is at a 10 minutes' walk from the hostel. I would recommend it to backpapers because of its nearby supermarkets, bakeries, laundromat, post office and one of the most attractive old open markets.

From place Monge métro stop (5 minutes from the hostel), you are at only short rides to fte beautiful sights in Paris : Eiffel Tower, Louvre museum, Arc de Triumphe, the Champs Elysées, the Sacré-coeur. It is a chearful place - the main entrance is also a bar. It has it's own kitchen where you can make dinner. breakfast is included in the price.

Can anyone recommend a good hostel!

Re: Hostels

by heavennhell

There is quite a nice one on the outskirts of the city..not far from the famous cemetry(where jim Morrison etc reside)...all names escape me just now but im sure someone will know...

its not far from a tube station and has friendly staff

Re: Hostels

I suggest :
Young & Happy
80 rue Mouffetard
5° arrondissement

It is located near the Quartier Latin, in a very typical street with a market and several street musicians. There are a lot of restaurants nearby.

Or

Auberge de jeunesse
10 rue Trousseau
11° arrondissement
Near the Place de la Bastille. Not far from (by metro) the Pere Lachaise Cemetary where there is the Jim Morisson's grave

or

D'artagnan
80 rue Vitruve
20° arrondissement.
I guess it is the one advised by the previous message because the hostel is near the Pere Lachaise cemetary. Only concern : there is no attraction nearby.

or

The 3 ducks
6 place Etienne Pernet
15° arrondissement
Interessant because it is near to the Tour Eiffel.

if your looking to have a good time while your there and on a tight budget try the 3 ducks or peace and love, although the latter isnt in the best part of town.
