    Running in Jakarta

by kingreinhard Written Oct 20, 2013

Despite pollution, traffic jam and hazardous sidewalks, city running in Jakarta becomes more and more popular. If you dare to run in Jakarta, you will be surprised about the insigts you get and the possibilities you have:

Ragunan Zoo has an area of 5 km around, without traffic and smog. After paying the entrance fee of Rp. 3.000 you can run and enjoy the animals at the same time.

Surprise, surprise!! Jakarta even offers the possibility of running in the heart of downtown Jakarta with no traffic. Is it possible? Yes it is. The most important street in Jakarta, the Sudirman street in Central Jakarta, at the National Monument, is closed for traffic every Sunday morning. Why? The government wants to offer the possibility for people to run and walk for exercise. So, get going!

Jakarta Free Spirit is running club formed and run mostly by expatriate living in Jakarta.
Jakarta Free Spirit runs regularly every Saturday morning at Ragunan Zoo, start at 6:00 am.
And on Sunday at 6:00am they start at McDonald Kemang. This is a long distance run of approximate distance 20-35km. See their website for schedule and more Information at http://www.jakartafreespirit.org

Another organized running group in Jakarta is Indo Runners. They start on 6:30am at various places in Jakarta. Detailed information can be found on their facebook page, unfortunately only in Bahasa Indonesia. Additional information about running in Jakarta can be found at http://indonesia-traveler.com/E/Java-Travel-Jakarta.php

Adjacent to Pondok Indah Mall in South Jakarta, Pondok Indah Waterpark can be a good choice to have fun splishing and splashing... or swimming in the Olympic-size swimming pool.

Otherwise, in Taman Impian Jaya Ancol the amusement park in North Jakarta, there is also a waterpark.

    corals near pramuka island

There are some dive shops in Jakarta and regularly they organize a dive trip during weekend. We can join them. Our usual dive trip destination is to one of Thousand islands (start by boat from Ancol) or to Sanghyang island (by boat from Anyer-it's 3 hrs from Jakarta by car).

Equipment: They provide all the dive gear, make sure we get the right size. But we can bring ours if we want.

    Free swimming flatworm

If you have some extra time in Jakarta, you may wish to go diving outside of Pulau Seribu (1000 Islands) for a weekend. This short dive trip involved taking a ~2 hour boat ride out of a marina in Jakarta early in the morning on Saturday and spending the night in a island resort. I stayed at Matahari Resort, which in itself was the island, all of a 5 minute walking lap. After three dives on Saturday and two on Sunday, it was time to take the return boat back to Jakarta. The facilities were not extravagant, but were comfortable. Diving likewise was not the best of the world, but beats a good day at work any time. Waters were warm, visibility was ~30ft due to heavy plankton and currents, but that just made the soft corals and small reef fish that much more healthy. There were lots of smaller reef fish and schools, health soft corals, and active nocturnal critters during the night.

    Permata Sentul
The international standard course is rather hilly. The front nine predominantly plays down hill, while the back nine plays up hill. The green of hole 9 is situated some 100 meters above sea level. Hole 18 finishes some 244 meters above sea level. To give you an idea: the tee box of hole 1 is situated some 181 meter above sea level, while the green finishes at some 150 meters above sea level. The course is friendly and players of all skill levels have a choice out of 4 different tee box positions. Down hill play is always somewhat difficult when it comes to club selection and that's what make Permata Sentul's front nine challenging and tricky. Overconfident players who come to play this course for the first time should bare this in mind. If down hill play is tricky, up hill play is certainly not easy too. The back nine will prove this.

The Imperial Golf Course is located in the satellite town of Lippo Karawaci, some 30 minutes outside of Jakarta's city centre. The 6,907 yard, international standard course, was designed by Desmond Muirhead and is a public facility. It's an open and rather flat course with lots of artificial undulations. The wind, deep and sometimes long and wide bunkers in all sort of shapes and interesting water hazards .The club boasts a 300 yard driving range and a chipping-and-putting and bunker shot practice are. The course is located adjacent to the 5-star Imperial Century Hotel and the Super Mall for all your shopping needs.
Padang Golf Modern is the only golf course in Indonesia which provides "night" golf. The course was designed by five-time British Open champion Peter Thomson. The Farway quite Flat land but tricky if you miss yur fairway .

by cometojakarta Written Aug 3, 2004
From Black Hawk Down Vietnam , to even though Ir

Well don’t get scared or shocked after having a look at the pictures above because that’s not pics from Iraq , Somalia , Palestine or even Aceh .But from my most favorite Military enthusiast Club CODE 4 where I am a member myself – A Club that is different from any Sports Club , A Club where one can almost feel the hardship, experience of a true fighting Soldier in a fun simulated War situation .

Equipped with heavy Military gears this Club consists of Members with profession like Computer Programmers , Business men , Executives , Editors , Graphic Designers and Expatriates like me who love to play a small role in life– A Soldier for the Day .We share the same hobbies as war game Freaks , Shooting Games , Air soft replica toyguns, and many more which makes us together as a Team , An Only Club in Jakarta which gives total war experience for anybody during our game plays.

Equipment: This Sport is entirely Different from any paint ball or shooting games because the game plays are totally focused on War scenarios not only on Assault or Elimination themes. This particular time the Scenarios are played by Dividing 2 groups through the members of Code 4 , in which each plays a role of its own own . Each Group is assigned with a Special Task respectively , defense or offense , and the goals , Scenarios are explained before days of the games play . Each member even receives a Email Alert explaining the game plays , information on the Dress code , groups separation , and many other Basic Information .

And then Comes the Day of the Game . The Day of the War !!!
