    2.-JR shin osaka station.
.by shinkansen on NOZOMI is 50 min...to JR nagoya station...

From NAGOYA station to the expo

    1.-JR NAGOYA station.
    . take..JR chuo

    ...shuttle bus......NAGAKUTE AREA....

    3.-Subway nagoya staion....
subway HIGASHIYAMA line.....subaway FUJIGAOKA station.....LINIMO......Tobu kyuryo line expo venue station...

To alleviate traffic congestion at the EXPO2005

Driving from yaizu to nagoya takes about 2 hours on the TOMEI, with a cost of almost 4000 yen, ONE WAY......

The expo recommend that people take public tansport to get to the expo site.........

Anyway I went by car, their is no parking on the expo ground but parking spaces are available about 20 kilometers east from the expo.....

When you park your car at the 6 parking lots available, there is a fee of 3000 yen for the whole day......You will take a shuttle bus which takes 20 to 30 minutes ride to any of the main gates......

the last bus back to the parking lot is 930pm...The picture shows a chip that you get from one of the vending machines for paying for your parking fee

Make sure you experience the Shinkansen (bullet train). It is fairly expensive but well worth it. There are over six of these high speed 'bullet trains' in service and they connect all the major cities in Japan. Nagoya to Tokyo takes a little under 2 hours. Now thats fast!

Nagoya Airport offers flights to and from all over Japan. From the Osaka or Tokyo regions, the shinkansen train service is the best bet.

By shinkansen the average fares are as follows: To/from Tokyo JPY10,580 (Journey time 2 hours). To/from Osaka JPY6180 (Journey time 1 hour).
To/from Takayama Limited express train on the Takayama Honsen line (Journey time 2 1/2 hours)

It is also possible (and cheaper!) to reach Nagoya by bus. Frequent buses run from Tokyo Station, taking approx. 6 hours at the cost of JPY5,100 one way). Buses also run from Kyoto and Osaka.
You'll find Nagoya easy to navigate. The streets form a grid pattern, and the subway is fast and efficient. In addition to JR, the extensive Meitetsu train and bus system also serve the greater Nagoya area.

The Shinkansen is by far the most convenient way to travel around Japan. Unfortunately it isn't very cheap! Luckily there is a Japan JR Rail Pass available to foreign travellers. See the JR East website for details:

It must be bought abroad and stamped in Japan before you can use it. There are several options including one week (unlimited JR travel except for the super fast Nozomi service), two week, JR East and JR West passes. Check with your local travel agent for the best option or click on the link to see for yourself!

Here is a link to a very cool page that lets you see the routing between cities/stations/ports within Japan. It will tell you the route and includes the cost and time. http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/norikae/.

I have also found this website which is extremely useful, in English with details of timetables all over Japan.

The very convenient (for the people living in the area) Nagoya International Airport has regular flights to London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam in Europe; Detroit, Los Angeles, and Vancouver in America; and several destinations in east and southeast Asia and Australia.

Express bus from Nagoya station to the airport is Y870 and it takes 30 minutes. Airport tax (included in the ticket) is Y 750.

The port of Nagoya has ferry conections to almost everywhere in Japan, including Hokkaido.

  • If you can read Japanese, this website is an invaluable source of information to plan your trips on buses.
    http://kotsuk.city.nagoya.jp/route/web/exp.cgi
You can type the boarding and alighting stops (in japanese of course) and it shows you the schedule.
Or you can check out individual stops and see what buses are available and where it goes.
