Walking the Zillerpromenade
The Zillerpromenade is a well maintained pathway that follows the Ziller river through the valley between Mayrhofen and Zell am Ziller. The promenade makes a gentle walk or is also a popular running or cycling route. It is pretty much flat and so suitable for those who don't want a lot of up or downhill on their route.
The promenade also has numerous benches along it's length so you can always find somewhere to stop and rest or just enjoy the views. There are also plenty of restaurants along the route near the villages where you can stop for a drink or ice-cream.
The views of the river are great. From the numerous bridges you'll get some of the best views.
In sunny weather make sure you use plenty of sun screen as some parts of the route have no shade and you will burn!
Should you find it all too much, there are stops of the Zillertalbahn dotted along the route.
Equipment: Wear some good walking shoes and make sure you have some money for ice-cream!

Walks in the Forest
There are some great opportunities for walking amongst the forests around Mayrhofen. These range from short gentle walks around the Eastern edge of the village amongst the trees to longer gentle walks to the neighbouring villages of Hollenzen and Eckartau or a much more challenging walk up the mountainside to Brandberg.
Watch out for birds and red squirrels in the trees and the enormous snails that seem to live in this area.
There are a lot of picturesque shrines beside many of the paths and most paths are well maintained and signposted.
Equipment: Wear good, sturdy walking boots and if going up to Brandberg I'd strongly recommend taking hiking poles.
- Hiking and Walking
In the Ziller valley, real adventure means flying freely over mountain tops like an eagle with only the sun and a paragliding canopy above, beneath, pine trees as small as matches. The initial anxiety is quickly transformed into an unbelievable feeling of freedom.
You can be in a raft conquering the foaming Ziller river, together with the boat pilot you steer with all your might through the waves.Or you could be in a canoe that could involve abseiling down a 25m waterfall or crossing gorges of crystal clear waterpools.
You could be racing down the hillside into the valley at high speed on a mountain bike, the trees beside the track nothing more than a green blur.
I fyou want adventure Mayrhofen is the place to be.
