    Rijselpoort Ieper Mall: Chain Store

by shavy Updated Oct 28, 2014

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Ypres hasn't that much of a shopping street. "Boterstraat" which are the main shopping streets in town, and "Menenstraat" where the fancy boutiques are. And a little bit more shops in "Rijselsestraat"

Besides, the shopping street in Ypres center. Nowadays, everyone can also shop this Mall. It is outside town but is doable on foot. You will find clothes, shoe, electronics, supermarkets and etc everything you need you'll find here

This Mall is only opened a couple of years ago, and every year came more and more stores. This is one of politician idea.

People from Ypres complained a long time ago, shopping in the center is so annoying. Is not only expensive for parking but is also lacked of parking space

So, this place is handy for everyone, you can do your shopping in one space. Except there are no restaurants here. Is one thing, should come in a few year

This mall is free parking and plenty of parking space. You can leave your car here for free and walk to the center. Is only about 10 minutes walk

What to buy: Everything you need. Shoe, apparel, electronics, foods and drinks

What to pay: What's your budget

    Patisserie Chocolaterie Vandale: CHOCOLATE.....

    by Greggor58 Updated Apr 23, 2009

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a charming small store that is family run and has been in business for more than a hundred was founded in 1891 and rebuilt on the "Grote Markt" in Ieper after the First World War.

Carl was running the store when I popped in...after I had SAMPLED some of the product, made some purchases, and asked if he minded if I take some photos...the conversation eventually got around to Virtual Tourist and he was more than enthusiastic about the idea of being able to find out so much information about travel destinations all in one Web site...Carl is a traveler also!!

Any of the dark chocolates are all good but there is more than a small choice with which you can indulge your sweet tooth!!! There are more than 70 different kinds of handmade Belgian chocolates as well as pastries available to snack on... : O ]

This was certainly a store that I would revisit if I was ever back in Ieper.....

What to pay: You could spend as much or as little as you like...given that I TRY to travel as light as I can...I couldn't buy as much as I would like to...but honestly I thought that what I had purchased was of good value...I didn't feel my purchases were over priced!!

Belgium is reknowned for its excellent chocolate shops and Ieper is no exception. It is a chocolate lovers paradise. I could not resist buying some and opted for some cat shaped chocolates as the cat is the symbol of Ieper.

Puydtjes' Charcuterie is a kind a bucher shop with fine paté's, kummelworst, gevulde ovenkoeken and more run by Pascal Depuydt.

I even saw some bee paté.

The shop is in a lovely building with curved galls shopping windows in an Art Deco style.

    Peter de Groote: Belgian chocolates

by Dabs Updated Sep 26, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Declarations of "The finest Belgian Chocolates and the words "free sample", not to mention a growling stomach drew me into Peter de Groote and I ended up buying several different kinds to try. These ended up being some of the least expensive chocolates that I would try and also my favorites, especially the white chocolate creme fraiche. Very simple, no nuts, no added layers of anything, just chocolate and fresh cream, delicious!

I should have gone back and bought some more but since we were traveling by car, I had planned to stock up in Brussels right before we returned home. I never did find another Peter de Groote store since the only location is in Ypres and although I came close, I didn't find any that I liked as well as these.

What to pay: Compared to other Belgian chocolates, these were relatively inexpensive

  • Vandaele: Chocolate or beer?

by Martinewezel Written Jan 30, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We found these hand crafted beer bottles made out of chocolate very funny.

Both chocolate and beer are Belgian specialities, so why not buy two in one?

    Nice present to take home!

What to pay: 4 euros/ bottle is not much, is it?
