Truly it depends upon what kind of food you would like to eat and where? some of the cheapest foods contain pork so it may be off bounds for moslems. south indian food is cheap: roti canai is around 2 ringitt and teh tahrek is around 2 ringitt.. so you could get a meal for about one dollar.
roadside stalls sell noodles between 5 and 10 ringgits. there are distinct food styles in KL: Chinese Malay and South Indian reflecting the people of the place. It would be a crime to come to Malaysia and scrimp on money and not enjoy some of the best food available in South East Asia, especially the Chinese Food. But you would need a local chinese friend to help you sort out the menu.

It really depends on what you want to eat.

You can have roti canai and a drink for around USD 1.

However, at the same Mamak (Indian Muslim) store, you can get a meal of meat, fish, vegetable and drink for around USD 2.50 to 3.

If coming to KL and worry about cost of food, then be rest assured. If you select road-side foods or local coffee shop foods the price is affordable. EST - Plain rice about RM1, Veg 1 serving RM1, Meat RM4, Fish RM5, Coffee, Tea RM1, Soft drink RM1.80 Fried Noodle or Rice RM5.00. Is that affordable?

Travel Tips for Kuala Lumpur

by cuppadamoksha

Well the best place to get free Internet Acess is in the KLIA . On the first floor is the Sony Showroom ..they have free internet access available .. the catch is that you can use the computer for 30 mins as there are generally other people also wanting to use the computer..

The people are very friendly...

by glen_warner

The people are very friendly and willing to help, if your offered a taxi or transport of any kind a simple no thanks is all that is needed.
After being in Singapore for a week, it was good to see some culture coming through in the locals.
The countryside is green (that's saying something for a kiwi) and the place is general clean for a highly populated country. F1 Grand Prix and I still haven't been yet, 4 days and counting.
Batu Caves (if I visit them)
and the Petronas Towers

Go shopping! I am sorry to say...

by emmandtom

Go shopping! I am sorry to say but I love shopping and KL was fantastic for it! There are loads of malls selling cheaper designer clothes (The KL Twin Towers had a great 6 level shopping centre in it with a fab food hall.)However my favourite was an indoor market near to the railway station. Itis on 2 levels and is filled with small stalls selling loads of intriguing gift items. There is a money change and some nice cafes here too. We ought a beautiful hand painted fan, a wooden drum, some carved and decorated ornaments etc. It is the best place for souvenier buying and good if you just want to have a little wander and people watch.

Traffic jam

by l_joo

Traffic jam is unavoidable if you drive. This is a picture taken from the street in front of Chinatown. Probably traffic jam is a sign of some successful metropolitan, it must be this way to look like a fully developed nation, I am not so sure why it must be this way to let cars appeared all in one jampacked form. Ask well educated peoples, they might know the answer, let them do they analysis.

Chinese New Year festivities

by Audrey118

During the Chinese New Year season, lots of merry making is seen. It is usually around Late January to February month.
Chinese love decking in red, eat mandarin oranges, have lion dances, and go out to have grand banquets. Many Chinese restaurants may have firecrackers, lion dances to offer..check out the time.

We celeberate for 15 days, and we have this unique dish called Yee Sang (Raw Fish) - it is salad-y type of food. Yee means endless wealth and sang means life. And we would furiously mix the ingredients served in a platter and shout lou hei - symbolises prosperity and longevity
