bad impression of royale bintang in damansara
by TripAdvisor Member samt2
This is quite disappointed me. I stayed in this hotel before(year 2006), Royal Bintang in Mutiara Damansara. It was nice( since there is no other hotels that is better in that area) but what that disappointed me was happened last week when i had a family day trip in the curve. I was thinking of going to Ikano Shopping Mall from the curve boulevard, and i past through the hotel lobby to Ikano. (from one entrance that is facing to the boulevard to the entrance facing to Ikano). And unfortunately, those staffs in lobby saw me passing through and noticed that i was not their customer(probably this is a problem for them- shoppers in the curve who are not staying in the hotel always pass by the lobby to Ikano) and i got to feel something was wrong from them. They did not block me, but few staffs were looking at me, and one of them was ordered by the supervisor or the manager to go to the entrance(i did not see if they were locking that door or something). This gave me a very bad impression on them. I was wearing good and not carrying any food and not anything and i was alone. Were they thinking that i will lower
down the standard of the place or make the place dirty or something? If they did they should not open that door and should put some dividers to block it. This really made me a bad impression on them.
Great Location, OK Hotel
by TripAdvisor Member PerthCouple
My husband & I stayed there for 8 nights on recommendation of a close friend.
Good points:
•Check in was hassle free.
•Love the location, it’s close to Sungai Wang, Lot 10, Star Hills, the monorail, restaurants, internet cafes, 24 hours convenient stores etc.
•The Hotel offers a free bus shuttle to the Curves shopping centre where they have another newer Royale Bintang Hotel at Damansaran.
•Clean, spacious room.
•Love the strong shower head but no bath tub in our room.
•Fantastic variety of international breakfast.
•Hotel also offers free drinking bottle water in the room.
Bad points:
•Room could do with some refurbishment.
Would we stay there again if we ever go back to KL? Maybe, maybe not.

WARNING !!!!! ROYALE BINTANG hotel in KL thru ASIAROOMS.COM
Fellow Travellers !!!!
Be careful with ROYALE BINTANG Hotel in Kuala Lumpur !! I booked 2 rooms for 3 nights weeks in advance at this hotel thru [--] , got a "confirmation coupon" from DESTINATIONS OF THE WORLD MALAYSIA (agent) but was told upon arrival at the front desk that my reservation was NOT IN THE SYSTEM and that it had to be reconfirmed with the agent the next day since the agent only works 9 to 5 ! ( there is such a thing called mobile phones in other places) As a result I was pretty much left hanging in the air and had to UPGRADE to a "CLUB ROOM" since those are the only non-smoking rooms available for the night and had to pay the difference of RM 460.00 for the 2 rooms for one night !!!!!!
When they finally "contacted" the agent the next day, they moved us down to the regular rooms ( non-smoking ) which i originally booked for and guess what ! the "regular rooms " are practically identical to the "club rooms" ( club rooms had access to a "club lounge" - which was in itself a joke !) save for the flat screen tv which had very limited channels anyway !
Its either the agent ( destinations of the world malaysia ) is incompetent or this hotel is trying to gouge tourists by making reservations conveniently disappear from the system and have you "upgrade" at the last minute to something that is not much different from what you should have at almost KL HILTON or MARRIOT prices !!!!!
I use [--] often and have had no problems in other hotels ! In fact , i wrote them about this matter too .
AVOID ROYALE BINTANG ! ( ex-NOVOTEL .... I wonder why ...... )
Disappointed with this hotel
by TripAdvisor Member Kali737
I booked my stay here on the eve of the Formula One/Easter weekend and I was just pleased to be able to get a room as every other hotel I’d tried was fully booked. I had an ‘executive room’ which is the standard room and it had positives and negatives, good things were that it all looked very nice and everything was in good condition, in-room safe, windows that open, OK bathroom with shower over the bath. The negatives were more numerous: it was very small with a tiny wardrobe and no other storage space, a small double bed, dial-up internet access which I couldn’t get to work and which staff were unable to help me with, only three English language TV stations (CNN, ESPN sports channel and another channel showing just the worst of American TV).
As for the rest of the hotel, well, the staff were friendly and helpful but not overly so for KL. The pool area is nice but not great; the gym is good with a selection of cardio equipment, weight machines and a nice selection of free weights. The buffet breakfast was very disappointing. They did allow me an early check-in at 10am for which I was grateful.
One thing I did really like is the hotel’s location on a lively street full of restaurants, shops, net cafes, money changers etc. It was a fun place to wander in the evening.
Royale Bintang is not a bad hotel - and in other parts of the world may seem fine - but in KL I believe there is much better accommodation available at the same price. I won’t stay again.
Great stay........

Stayed for three nights in this fine hotel. Were upgraded to a family room, loads of space, windows on two sides, incredible views. Location was excellent, all attractions and shops within walking distance. Buffet breakfast super, get there early, packed from 8.30am on...
Great value, and staff really nice. Would stay there again.
Terriffic Hotel!

I stayed in this hotel for 3 days on my honeymoon. We booked the hotel online and were not sure what to expect although we had read good reviews about it. The best part about this hotel is its location. Its barely 5mins away from the subway station. There are alot of malls, eating places just outside the hotel. The roadside shops and eating places remain open till after midnite. we booked the deluxe room. Our room was on the 13th floor and it had a breathtaking view of the majestic Petronas Towers. The hotel room was clean and well maintained. The lobby and staff were very nice. Check in and check out did not take more than 10 mins. The front desk people were very helpful about telling ways, tourist attractions and any other information that we asked them. The complimentary Breakfast was very nice from 630-1030am. We would highly recommend this hotel to all those who want to be near the hustle and bustle and want to travel through thesubway. However, taxis are also available easily and are on the meter system. Whenver we return to KL, no doubt we will stay in the same hotel. Great value for money!!!
Good Hotel with Perfect Location
by A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Royal Bintang for 3 nites , from April 6 to April 9 . The location is perfect. Walking distance to many malls, including Low Yat Plaza, Sungei Wang Plaza , Lot 10, Times Square, to name a few. Walking distance to many restaurants and also the Jalan Alor foodstreet. There are also many foot and body massage parlors near the hotel. The rooms are simple, not luxurious , but clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is not bad, but does not have many choices of food. But the hotel is very good value for money, considering the low price room rates .
This hotel is Above Average

I booked and prepaid this hotel through a local travel agency after reading more positive reviews than negative ones here on tripadvisor.
The rate given to me by my travel agent was comparable (even a little cheaper) to the rates online. We stayed at this hotel from April 7 to 10. We arrived at the hotel at 2:30 A.M. in the morning and were greeted upon by a courteous staff manning the reception counter. Check-in was a breeze because my travel agent had already taken care of my booking in advance. I had originally booked a Superior room (2 single beds) with an extra bed as we are three in our group. Was surprised that the hotel had upgraded our room to a De Luxe category which has more amenities compared to the superior room without any additional charges. In less than 5 minutes time, we were already on our way up to our room on the 16th floor.
The room was quite fine. Everything inside the room was working properly. The bed was not that soft but still comfortable so we all had a good sleep during the course of our stay. The only thing that i don't like was that their channel lineup was only limited to 12 channels and only 3 were english channels (CNN included).
Breakfast was included in our room booking. Breakfast was served buffet style with an assortment of food ranging from chicken sausages, noodles, fried rice, sambal, chicken curry, omelette station, breads and pastries, fresh fruits, cereals, orange and mango juice station and some more. The menu was almost the same everyday so you might want to head somewhere else for breakfast on your second or third day. There are Deli France cafes, Starbucks, Mc Donalds, Dome cafes, Cinnabon and local chinese eateries in the vicinity of the hotel. Ask the concierge at the lobby for directions if you cannot locate it.
As the hotel is situated along Bukit Bintang road, it is near to the many shopping malls in the area like Plaza Low Yat, Sungei Wang Mall, BB Plaza, Bintang Walk and a whole lot more. Berjaya Times Square is just 7 to 10 minutes walk away. If you need a quick snack or some drinks, there is a convenience store just beside the hotel. There is also a money changer adjacent to the hotel.
I booked the hotel's limo transfer to KLIA a day before our actual departure date. Gave them a deposit and the balance to be paid when you arrive at the airport. The limo counter is just beside the concierge desk at the lobby. I had booked the cheapest vehicle in their lineup (Mercedes E Class - but vehicle's year model was around 5 to 6 years ago) for our transfer as we are not very particular with the type of car to be used. When we were about to depart that evening, the limo counter suddenly informed me that the cheapest vehicle was not avaible at that time as it was still being used by another hotel guest but they quickly said that they were upgrading my ride to a new model minivan which was the most expensive in their vehicle lineup (i saw it in their price list) with absolutely no extra charge. They even apologized that my original choice was not yet available at the time of my departure. Great gesture on their part.
Overall, the hotel is above average. And i think this hotel will even be better in the near future as they have started renovations of their rooms from 17th floor up. They plan to make the rooms ultra modern with new furnitures, fixtures, beds and even a new LCD T.V. in each room. Looking forward to coming back to this hotel.
Great Location & Hotel

2nd time we have stayed at this Hotel in 18 months. This time there was 13 of us @ F1 time. Hotel was very busy but staff always very helpful, especially the porters who were always full of local knowledge and tips.
Book with breakfast included, it is one of the best and will set you up for the day.
Great location, one of the best street food areas 100mtrs away plus needless to say about 5 shopping malls. Also close to the monorail.

"Royale Bintang Hotel"
Just want to share my 4days stay in Royale Bintang Hotel. Upon arrival, the reception staff is not very friendly and the service is very very slow. And of course not very helpful. Everything we asked they said 'not sure'. Worst still, some couldn't speak English. So, don't expect too much. The room is fine (same as the picture). My stay there is quite a pleasant one (as it is quite near to most of the shopping places) except for the breakfast part.
As for the free breakfast buffet, I am very disappointed with their standard. On our first day, when we went to the coffee house to 'redeem' our free breakfast buffet, the waitress ushered us to another place where you walk through the 'dirty' exit corridor to a 'run-down' so-called ballroom. The seating layout there is Round Tables for 10 where you have to share the table with others. If you are in small group (i.e. 2) and happen to bump onto selfish people refusing to share with strangers for breakfast, Good Luck to you in finding seats. On the next day, we went to the same coffeehouse again for our breakfast and noticed a lot of guests had their breakfast in the coffeehouse instead of the ballroom. So we decided to stand at a corner to observe. This is actually 'Double-standard'. We are all paying for our stay there and the staff should not have to right to judge who deserve a better place for Breakfast. We are so annoyed. So, on our last day there, I insist that I want to be seated at the Coffeehouse for my breakfast. According to the waitress, we have to wait for empty table first which we did. This is what I called a proper place to have breakfast in a hotel! To my surprise, queues started to be formed outside and the waitress claimed that the coffeehouse is full. Guess what? At least 4 tables were stacked with piles of dirty dishes which nobody bother to clear and for conveniences, just stack it there. Immediately, my point of view is the staff there would rather let the dirty dishes sits on the tables than to clear for their guests. As for the food, no big deal at all. Not much choices, average taste and the worst part is they are not very "on" in replenshing the food.
Remember, the next time if you stay there. Insist to have your breakfast at the coffeehouse because you paid for it.
"Shopping in Kuala Lumpur"
It is indeed a shopping paradise for crazy shopper like me. They have Berjaya Times Square, Lot 10, KL Plaza, Low Yat Plaza, BB Plaza, Sungei Wang etc. And the best place for shopping of course is the BB Plaza/Sungei Wang (They are linked). It is the most happening shopping centres among all. You can find everything from Clothes, Shoes, Accessories, Electrical Applicances, Handphone, Salon, etc.

hi just wondering what are peoples views on the royale bintang hotel. we have a 2 year old and a 6 year old, what is the kids pool like and room quality?? thanks in advance
Re: royale bintang
by Nissanmit
Good. Rooms are pleasantly furbished and the location is excellent. You can't ask for more value at that price. The pool is quite standard. Not sure about the kids though. But if breakfast is included in your room rates, try to go earlier, say before 9am. Cafe tends to be over subscribed after 9am on the many occasions I was there. Prob cos the room occupancy rate is consistenly high. You gotto queue for a while.

I'm just back from KL this evening, & stayed @ Royale Bintang. Actually, I always stay there when I'm in KL.
Rather nice & reasonably priced. Convenient location to whereever I want to go. Wlking distance to good & cheap food, as well.
Buffet breakfast is very good, but try to go before 9 a.m., otherwise you might have to queue for about 15 minutes.
Pool is OK, rooms are very nice & spacious. Spa is very good, with couple rooms, so highly recommended, as well.
Cheers.

The Royale Bintang is good value. The rooms are a little dated but when I stayed in June I found it very pleasant. There are lots of families who stay there and it seems popular with groups/ conferences.
The pools are unheated but great on a steamy hot day. The kids pool is small and shallow but the kids I saw seemed to enjoy it.
The hotel is in a great location - Times Square is just around the corner and the indoor theme park is a must for kids: it has a whole section of rides for small children!
